Every time when I start the XJ she lets out a screech. It sounds like an issue with somthing along the belt line. Used to only happen when I first started up and after it warmed up it would go away. Now I can hear it while driving but it is a low sound. I also noticed on the way into work this morning that when the screeching came the lights would dim a little. Any thoughts?

If it's not the belt slipping, could be the idler pully. The bearings go in them. You can get a whole pully or a new bearing at APJ I believe.

Is it a hard thing to do? Yank out the pully that is? Also does anyone know how much a new bearing for them costs? I am assuming that I will need a puller to get it off, so anyone know the size?

Try tightening the belt first. I have to tighten the one on my 4.0 quite often.

I think I got my last idler (complete pully) for around $35 IIRC. Bearing would be cheaper I am sure. Give APJ a call.
Like Alan said, make sure the bely is tight first.

How long since it had a new belt? if you can't remember it probably needs a new one. As others have said it could also be the idler bearing on its way out. John

Well I went to Bill's store and got the bearing. Took all of 2 min to get the pulley off and a couple more to replace the bearing. The hardest thing in all of this was trying to get at the bolts you need to loosen on the PS Pump for adjustment. Now the XJ is quiet like a mouse moose instead of a screeching cat, lol. ;D
