Very sad. Poor young lady killed during what was supposed to be a fun event...freak accident. But these things happen when people get complacent about safety. She must have been really close to have it kill her. A damn shame though...

I would imagine that this is going to affect ANY public Jeep event in the future.

Jeff it may and may not , one thing for sure is spectators ..... anyone for that matter should be kept back out of the way and will be on everyons mind for a while to come . you allways see lots of lookers close to RTI ramps as well ,which shouldnt be . Any way you look at it its a sad thing to happen

A sad loss and a bad impression of our Jeep's.
I cant help but think this could have been avoided.
I spend a lot of time on trails telling people to move back, this is dangerous. We all love to watch, but seldom think of the danger we are in.
I think the Jam commitee should also think about this and form some tighter guidelines on the trails. Sorry to trail guides and the commitee for puting this out there but I fear if we do not make some changes we will be reading about one of our events sometime.
RIP, my condolnces to the family.

My plant won top 5 safest employer in Canada last year. so I'm going to use that as a resume for the following info - It is driven into our heads that WE, ourselves, are ultimately responsible for our own safety. The responsiblity cannot be downloaded to management, or in this case, trail guides or whatever. If YOU do not act safely, no one can make you or force you. All management (or guides) can do is promote a culture of awareness.
We are pretty good around the damn hi-lifts after John C's accident. Let this accident in Edmonton be fair warning to anyone frigging around an active vehicle. We don't need it to happen here, to learn the lesson.

Terrible news and a terrible thing for sure. My sincerest condolences to all involved.
While I certainly agree with the standpoint that the spectator should not have been in the position to be in the potential path of the Jeep, I also strongly agree that we, as individuals have to take more responsibility for our own safety. It's always been a personal peeve of mine to see anyone in a high risk area at any motorsports event who is not paying keen attention to the potential dangers around them.
I think it is a good thing that we will all have this fresh in our minds going into Jam. We have been blessed by not having anything tragic happen. Some of that is certainly due to good safety practice but unfortunately some of it can be attributed to pure good luck. Don't think for a minute that the potential isn't there, it has happened. I'm sure I'm not the only one left here who was at the '05 Valley 4x4 mud bog at Fox Mountain. Things did indeed go very bad. 100% luck that no one was killed that day. I won't get into the full details but a Jeep was destroyed, one other participant vehicle was heavily damaged and one participant/spectator was slightly injured.
What we do IS dangerous and we ALL have to do everything we can to keep ourselves and others safe.

Here is the problem, society as a whole has been dumbed down so much that common sense does not dictate to get the hell out of the way when there is potential danger present. It is truly too bad that government has stepped in and taken away natural selection. In the wild these type of people would never have matured into adulthood. And make off spring. And as a result of the incident there will be the negative stereotypes of the Jeep and lifted truck world, we will be the ones to blame. Not the dumb asses that are always standing where they should not be.
