Just a heads up to anyone in this part of the woods. Not that any of us have anything to worry about...
They had quite the set up, I counted 5 RCMP, 3 Vehicle Compliance Vans, 1 lift, a couple jacks and stands and another 5 yellow vests with clip boards. They appeared to be targeting anything with a bit of rust showing/4wd vehicles as Hillary and I were passed right through in her civic. Luck was on my side today that the Jeep was down with a bad leak.
This got me thinking - aside from the tire/fender "issue" if they were to find something a miss even though my Jeep has passed a prior inspection, what would the repercussions be? For example if they found my e-brake to not be working? Do I get a failure sticker? a fine? Would they make me tow my Jeep?
I pretty much had an anxiety attack in the passenger seat. Most of that stems from a recent incident in my lapse of judgement taking my old man's uninspected truck for a delivery and getting pulled over.

Depends on how much stuff they find and how much of a dick you/they are.
If they find something they judge not to safe for the road, its going on the hook.
Read and know the Vehicle Inpection Manual, you might have to borrow a copy from a shop and photocopy it. I have an out-of-date one kicking around my place for checking stuff. Then you have to deal with their interpretations and attitudes.
At a big check-point like described, they are going to be on the look-out for the easy targets.
Big muddy 4x4's are low-hanging fruit to them, they are always going to flag you for a second look out of the line-up.
We all know exposed tires, mud, rust, beat panels, oversized tires, and home-made suspension parts are heat-scores.
With a jack, they can check your front wheelbearings/balljoints/tierods in a few minutes. With a quick drop of the knee, they can fail for any leaking fluids. They can check your parking brake in a few seconds, they can check all your lights in a few seconds. ALL these items and more have to be in good shape if you expect to get a pass for aggro fenders or the bigger tires.
Keep it clean, well maintained, make nice parts, weld pretty, and be informed on the MVA and be polite, and hope for the best.

They'll pull the sticker and give you an order to re-inspect.

Keep it in good running order but so dirty on the underside that they will be picking mud boogers for the next week.

When you say they had a lift, you mean a tow truck right? They didn't have an actual vehicle lift set up on the side of the highway did they?

They had an actual drive on "lift" similar to those ones you see car dealerships using to display cars.

I wonder what they'd do for out of province visitors.
There's no tire/flare laws in NB

Holy christ there is another one about a kilometre down the road today from the one on Monday, I brought the Jeep too. I hope they are gone by lunch time or I'll be chopped liver.

Then you should seriously look at what you are driving. If it's unsafe, take it off the road, put it on a trailer, or stop driving it altogether.

It's not unsafe, the ebrake functionality and the tire/fender issue are my only concerns. Aside from the milk crate that I use for a seat it's pristine.

I wonder what they'd do for out of province visitors. There's no tire/flare laws in NB Same as running studded tires in some provinces...... you get a ticket. But most of the time if you don't act like a dick and let them go about what they have to do all will go well.
