Well Im not up to date on my Toyota trannies. I have three trannies that I can use, but I'm pretty I'm not goin to use one because of its length. I'm just lookin for what year these trannies are, and the gear ratios I think this one is a 5 spd, out of a 84 toy truck. But it's 4 " longer than the other two, so I'm thinkin about not using it just because of the length of it. I might use it if the other two are a weak trannies This one is the one that's connected to the engine and the T cases. It's a 4 spd, but I'm not sure on a year or the strength of it. This one looks just like the 4 spd, but it's a 5 spd. I'm thinkin that it and the 4 spd are close to the same years. Just lookin for some info, and what would be the best choice. Trannies are goin to be bolted up to a 1.6 vw turbo diesel. Thanks

the one in the first pick looks to be a w56 tranny they are the strongest the other two are pre 83 trannys and are prone to the shift linkage bending and better suited for 2wd trucks the w56 also will except the gear driven t case the last two are L series trannys the housings are cast and are 4 speeds the cover plate on the input shaft should have the the type of series it is good spot to check tranny stuff is www.marlincrawler.com/transmission/rebuilt-complete

Hey Rue,
Diggin my old Yoter brains out: I got to disagree with Colin, I think that 5-speed is a G-series. It really looks like the one I had in the Roach, and that was and '84. I'm digging thru old build pictures to confirm, but I'm 99% sure. Good trans though, I liked mine, and it certainly held up to the abuse my little 22R and doubler put on it.
I do agree about the 2 ther trans tho: they are weak, and you will hate yourself for trying to use them.
