This sort of goes with my newbie with questions post. Now I know that it depends on how well it was taken care of etc etc but if there is no proof of oil changes etc then all you have to go by is the sellers word. So if the vehicle is approaching the 300 k mark should I stay away. Granted the body is in good shape and the rest of the truck seems to have been taken care of so just thought i would ask. BTW it is a Grand Cherokee Thanks

If it runs fine, I wouldn't worry about 300,000. My Grand has 253,000 and runs like a new one. 4.0's have been known to go over 500,000.

MY XJ has 296 - no signs of getting tired. Dont worry about the KM if the Jeep has been looked after.

Thanks Justajeep, So I guess my next question would be that since this is going to be a vehicle that I want to take in the woods on the weekend after joining the NSJC. Any good sites around on what to add to prepare it to do some off-roading. Keeping in mind that I will be on a budget of course...lol

Yes, XJ is the model code for Cherokees, ZJ is for the first Grands. Right here is a great place to find info to get ready for off-road, just read and ask away. If you do get a Grand, Chopshop (Jan) knows some good sites for them, and has a slightly modified one himself.

NAGCA.com
north american grand cherokee assc. is a good one for beginners, or the grand section on JeepsUnlimited.com
Mallcrawlin.com is an advanced site for zj/wj's. they are pretty cranky to newbs tho. tons of good info, just don't post.
if you find a rig you like, let me know on the board here, i'll be able to tell you what to check.
try to avoid the awd t-case in 93-95. you can tell because it only has two positions on the tcase shifter.

WOW, Awesome websites Chopshop. It figures though, it is a 94 that I am going to look at tomorrow. Is a transfer case changeover a hard thing to do if i can get the truck for a good price?
