Hi There, Not being very mechanical, I thought I would ask the board. If a person wanted to change the transmission in a new style JK(2012 plus) two door Rubicon from a standard transmission to an automatic transmission, how big a deal? Assuming a person could get the parts from a junked JK. Thanks, Stephen B.

Since you can't do the work your self , it would be more expensive then it's worth , parts would be really expensive too

Way cheaper to learn to drive the standard.

The deal would be 59.65 on the international scale of deals, after carbon taxes.

I agree with Len learn to drive the standard. With a Rubicon it would be even easier to learn on due to the lower gear ratios. When I bought my Rubi last year it was more than 20 years since I drove a standard (aside from a failed and scary attempt on a dark, winding narrow road around the shore of Loch Ness Scotland, lol). I had no problems picking it back up even on the hills. Plus all the money you save from not doing the swap you can put towards "enhancements" on the Jeep.

It's not that we can't drive a standard. I was just curious on the cost of the swap, that is all.

Research on the internetz what the problems you might run into are. educate yourself.
Call a shop and ask their labor rate. Estimate a couple of days/week to swap, knowing the problems you might run into beforehand from your research. Call junkyards, find a smashed Jk with the parts you need and get a price.
Then you will know what the deal is. Pretty basic really.

I was looking for input from someone who might have done it. Not looking for "flip" comments. Forget I asked.
