A few months ago , we picked up a jeep YJ for my son , it was a 4cyl auto , it was in pieces and needed allot of work and parts , but it was cheap . My father and I thought it would be a great first car for him , but it was a basketcase ( my dad did the same thing for me with my first rig , a 76 ford bronco that never seen the road )
A few days ago , an ad showed up here on the board ,98 TJ parts for sale . I called the guy and set up a time to go have a look . The jeep had 167,000 kms with a 4.0 , 5 spd , D35 rear and 3.73 gears . I originally had the intention of using this jeep as an engine donor for my TJ , and get rid of the tired ole 4 banger in it , and part out the rest
His old YJ in the back ground
Buddy said the frame was done , and had cut off the front 4 in , where the bumper bolts on . I brought it in the shop yesterday , put it up on the hoist , and had a look at it . I seen a little bit of frame rot , But I had fixed alot worse , I checked out the tub , pretty well just the drivers floor gone . I moped a bit , and was really excited at the same time , there goes my engine swap . I called my son and got him over for the day . I was pretty excited to tell him , I couldn't sleep last night and was up early this morning . When he came over , I told him that I couldn`t give him the Ole YJ anymore , and pointed at the TJ on the hoist and said this is now yours . He was really happy
My Pop's and him spent the day cleaning the flaky frame , cleaning inside , swapping the ripped up steering wheel , pulling the inner rear , plastic fender wells and giving it a good look over
The list
Chris had given him a set of 31 goodyears , and they fit perfect on his jeep , OH BTW it has a 2.5 RC lift ( huge thanks for the tires and rims Chris !!!! )
It might be a bit before we get back to this build , But its gonna be one kick ass first jeep when I am done with it
