My father has 1 and I have 1. What do you need to know? We can try to come up with an answer.

Well Dan, the other day i went for a drive the other day and happened to find one in a farmers backyard. Stopped in the next day and now i own a 52 CDN m38. Its got a PTO winch on the front of it from factory, not sure how common that is. I kinda wanted a flattie to build and wheel a little bit but are these rare enough to not hack up? Ever tried getting parts? 3a Parts interchangeable to an extent? Thanks buddy!

The pto winches weren't that common, but the few I have seen, seemed to have stopped working long ago. That isn't unusual for them. I never did find parts rebuild them, although haven't looked for 8-10 years.
As for parts, many parts are interchangeable with the -3a, and many more will swap, but not be the same.
They are probably the most common flat-fender,so cutting it up isn't the worst thing you can do. Plus it looks like it is a little rough, so nobody will accuse you of ruining a piece of history.

Seems to me that tub has already been switched for a 3a. No tool imprints on the pass side. May be wrong... hard to tell in the pic. Is it a Koenig winch?

Nice find, no matter what you do to it or with it. Had to chuckle a bit at the brass label. Back in 1952, the army recommended airing down for different terrain.

It's hard to say about the tool marks and holds on the pass side as it appeared there was some bondo along that side. As for the tail gate not folding down you sure? And it's not the original tail gate, the old fella told me he made it as the old one was pretty beat. He used to work on the gagetown army base and he was the second owner of it, purchased in 85. As for the missing tails lights and blackout light, it's all in the garage along with the original soft top (one small hole in it) and doors. I haven't inspected it throughly as I bought it and am going to go get it when the ground gets a bit harder. More pics and info will follow! Oh and it's a Ramsey winch model 50 I believe.

Yeah, I was going to mention the tailgate... though I've heard the same, I'm not confident that's correct all the time. Is there a tool box under the pass seat? I know they were in the M38's... can't recall if they were also in the 3a's. Seem to remember they weren't. Great place for rust.

I was thinking that it looked like there was a bit of body work done to this body, maybe that covered or removed the tool intents. It is still an M38 cowl, with the battery box cover on the passenger side. One or both of our m38s have functioning tailgates, if that helps.
