Ok so I must say... scotty......was RIGHT. This vr winch has failed, taken for service repair anx failed again before even being used...
Verry disappointed with product and service.
I am told this is and entry level winch, well $700.00 is not an entry level price.
my feeling is I paid for a warn product and received a cheap Japanese Chinese knock off.
Also I would avoid drive line products on joezatman drive, thay do the repairs and sent this out still broken.
Comments and suggestions. ..
I emailed warn thay said sorry for your bad luck, not bad luck bad product. He said well it still has warranty, I said warranty didnt help on the trail. And doesnt pay my time and fuel to remove and bring this in twice...
No reply as of yet...

I'm really surprised that Warn is selling a crappy winch and that you're getting crappy warranty service. I've had a Warn M8000 on the front of my YJ for years and it's never failed me yet.
I haven't seen the VR series winches. What's failing on them? The gear boxes? The motors?
I know what you mean about warranties. They aren't worth shit if you're axle deep in a peat moss bog and your winch fails.

Goat ask if hes intrested in a 3.5 hp compressor and some air tools on trade for it, he should have taken my first offer...
It seemed to be relays the first time I took it in but now seems to be the motor.

My M8000 has done me well, I have had it for 7 years, exposed to all elements, abused like nobody's busoness, it is finally showing some age, my solenoids are getting a little sticky, they need a tap to get them going now. I am happy with it. When i first saw the VR series, i thought they looked awfully cheap. If i wanted a cheap winch, i would have gotten a superwinch, or one of those PA cheapy ones, and paida lot less.

I have the same winch. Vr8k. Had it since last March. It's dragged a rockers deep JK with 2 blown Axels out of a peat bog. Yanked an atv seat deep out of a clay pit with seized drive train. Never failed to self recover my own JK. Works like a charm every time I use it. Maybe you just got a lemon.

This reminds me of going out with a few guys offroad (as a passenger). TJ gets stuck, WJ with the winch goes to pull him out...gets pissed that his winch doesn't work. We check it over, it's hooked up right but something didn't seem right.
Thing was seized. Never used, greased, oiled or uncoiled in and out. Installed it and left it at that. For about 2 years.
