So my son and I are starting to acquire all of the parts we need to get the 94 XJ back on the road. We are using some parts from the 92 and are picking up the rest as we can find them (thanks again Tasha for the front clip.) My question is that I have a vacuum hose coming out the front below the pass headlight and on the inside of the 92 bumper there is a "pill" shaped container there. Now I know that the hose connects to it but... What is it for?

i think its a vacuum reservoir for the vac. disco.
so it stays in 4x4 in you stall or something.
i THINK!, not 100%

Would make sense because I can't shift the TC into any position. The rod moves but nothing engages.

wait now....be more specific.
the tcase lever is moving, the tcase linage is hooked up and moves? but no 4x4? = vac. disco at axle. can you get 2wd low range?
or do you mean the tcase won't shift?

thats the apple juice can. lol
i think he means the round ball behind the bumper on xj's.
see the last port in your diagram says "to 4x4 axle" or whatever? thats where the ball hooks up.

As far as I know there is no disconnect on a '94 XJ. As it says in the diagram there, it's for the heater control and cruise (if you have it). Not sure what might be up with your 4wd.

I got under the XJ and had my son move the shifter. I could see the connecting rod move but the part on the case didn't. It wont shift into any 4X4 gear. It is probably a result of the accident (hit the forward part of the passenger front wheel at the bumper).
