There have been times when I have drug mine, doesn't bother it at all. I'm sure it would wear the tip faster though. Cutting out rusty sheet metal is hardest on tips. I've had mine for close to a year now, just about due to buy my first replacement tips for it.

It wont really bother the machine in most cases... But Its harder on the tip as it tends to drag rust and crap into it eventually makeing the "flame" shoot off to the side and do all sorts of strange things Don

the machines have evolved very quicky. even ones a few years old may not have been able to drag.

the Hypertherm380's have been discontinued. that price listed is cheaper than what i paid by a few hundred. you will still get service, etc. they just don't make that model anymore, you would be buying up old stock. the replacement is 1/2 the size and a bit more cutting capacity. unless you are hanging from a girder 200' in the sky, the 380 is already small enough. I'd highly recommend the service at BOC Gases, if buying. they threw in some consumables and a tinted visor when i bought mine. nice guys too. you'll see the difference if coming from Liquidaire.
