Hey folks. NBJC member for a couple years now, I live in Moncton, and I'm on the fence if I'm going to start putting money into building up my soccer-mom 97 ZJ (High miles and auto trans are the strikes against it) , or maybe find a good deal on a slightly newer TJ..
Been shopping and finding that people want an arm, both legs, and at least one vital organ for most TJs. Is a 4-cyl stock 98 TJ with 200,000 on it really worth nine grand? Come on... anyway....
Anyway, I might have a line on a 2000 TJ for a good price, but the owner was taking it to get the inspection done and the clutch went on it. (Or at least that's what he thinks...says it won't go into gear, and when you try it wants to move...might just be the slave cyl though....) The shop's having a look at it in the morning, so I'll know more soon.
I'd be willing to make the drive if it is something easy to pinpoint like the clutch and not TC or trans related, but only if the jeep is in the shape he says it is. He's given me no reason not to trust him so far, but it's still a long drive.
If it turns out that it's needed...would there be anyone mechanicaly inclined (and knows their way around jeeps) that might be willing to take a look over and under it for me, if it came to that? just a quick walk around, kick the tires, have a look underneath and see if the cross members are all caved in, give the usual rusty areas a poke, etc....Usually with jeeps they're either solid and looked after, or they're beat half to death. This one sounds like it's been treated pretty good. Should be easy enough to tell.
It's in the south bar area....which I believe is just north of Sydney....?
If someone's close by there, and wouldn't mind helping me out, drop me a PM please.
It wouldn't be a back and forth thing....just look it over once, and tell me what you saw, listen to it running, done deal. I'll send you few books of Tims certificates, gift card for a case of beer...you decide.
And you'll have to promise not to buy it out from under me if it's in sweet shape. Please....
