Not to thread jack - but anyone interested in hearing/seeing about an electro discharge machine my father built to remove a broken tap from a gear belonging to an old snowmobile of his? if so I'll create a new thread. Hell yes, start a thread. I run EDM's all the time. 1000psi of de-ionized water thru a .010" brass tube electrode, all spinning in a chuck like a drill, 12 electrode gatling toolchanger, making .012" holes in nickle alloy. Let's see the other end of the spectrum

Getting closer and closer to linking the rear of my junk. I have my lower link axle brackets made up. I used 1/4x4 flat bar and did a neat trick to get the radius to bolt hole exactly the same on all 4 brackets. Set up my flat bar in the mill vise and popped a 3" hole saw through, then keeping my "Y" axle the same moved the "X" over 3" and popped a 5/8" hole for the bolt.....giving me exactly an 1.5" mounting distance from the edge of the axle. I then did the same thing in the other direction so all i need to do it cut the 3" hole in half, make a nice profile and i have two brackets with the same rad and bolt hole location.....plasma table whaaa ;D Made 3 of my upper link frame mounts the Friday before Christmas and i was short an 1" from having 4 pieces . Just clamped the pieces together and drilled 3, 5/8" holes 1" apart and cut a little notch for extra weld. I bought the air shocks Rue was selling.....look pretty good with a nice Christmas bow!! He was also nice enough to top them up with oil and pressurize them 200psi of N2 , that way once i get them under the rig i can let out the extra nitrogen till i get the ride height i want. These are really nice, end caps are beef with lots of quality machining. Bearings and miss-alignment spacers at both ends, 2" body with 1 3/8 bore. Today i machined my bushing sleeves from some 1 1/4 sch40. Set it up on the lathe, face cut, deburr, part off to length. Made quick work of those. Did the same thing for my HDPE bushings but don't seem to have a pic... Took my lowers over to the mill and cut the notch for the pipe sleeves.....1.5" slugger ate the 4340 for lunch!! machined two flats on the link as well so i can get a wrench on it to tighten the jam nut One lower link totally finished and the uppers have the weld-in bungs welded in... upper Last pic tonight is the truss....pretty basic but it will do the job. Left to do; - upper link frame mount - shock tabs/hoops - weld up other link ends - notch truss for axle, add tabs for uppers - clean up/paint the housing. The end of Feb is my "it better be f'n done" date but id like to get it rolling at the end of Jan.

Looks great Matt! Those tabs are killer. And I'd love to have a big mill to eat tube notching for dinner!
Don't forget that the center sections in our axles are all steel, so you don't need to do wacky bridge trusses like the dana guys do to avoid welding to their cast centers.

Yup that's a slugger....basicly a precise hole saw. They work awesome even on 1" thick 316.
Ya I try and use my shop gear when ever possible. Nice sharp cutters/inserts and digital readouts kick ass!!
