has anyone heard anything about requiring an endorcement to your license for towing trailers over 3500 lbs ?
i've heard a rumor, that if you apply now, it's just a form, if you wait, it's an actually driving test ??
i tow a fair amount and would like to know, if thier gonna require a test, i might as well get a class 1

I have heard nothing new about it, of course new rules from DMV seem to fall out of the air with no advance notice but I',m speaking from a commercial point of view.
I had to get a heavy trailer endorsement so I could tow my tag-a-long with a machine on. I told them what i needed and they said "get a letter from your employer stating that you have a need for it"
That should be easy enough, so I wrote my own letter ;D
On my license it is class 3, condition 03-air brakes, 15- valid for towing trailer over 4500 kg.
Of course this could be something altogether new.

All the guys who haul small asphalt rollers and skid steers , at my work , had to take the " test " It is a weight thing , I am not sure what the test is tho

i know a guy up the road had to get a "15" endorsement for his trailer. maybe that's all it is...... wonder if i could get away with writing a letter. that would be nice... i've got the class 3, and the 03 for air brakes now(thanks to the FD). but i don't want to be stuck taking a test if i don't need to...... might as well go for a class 1 then

i havent heard anything about this. i was just on a 2 day trailer MVI course and nothing was said about this. just the regular 4500kg rules. 3500lbs is not much weight to need another course.
i just checked with a good friend of mine who is a vechicle complaince officer. he checked and has not heard of anything new. only over 4500kg (9000ish lbs) you need the condition 15 for trailers but that has been in affect for about 10 years

that's not so bad. i don't have anything that can pull over 4500kg's..... unless i use a fire truck lol. but i do tend to haul well over 3500 lbs

Talked to the DMV. You go pay 47$, get a receipt, call the number on the receipt, they make an appointment for you to bring a heavy trailer to the office so they can watch you pull it and back it up in the parking lot and then they give you a 15 endorsement.

i called the dmv in sydney to see what i would need to tow a pup or float with a tandem . they said to get "condition 15" i would have to do written test for trailer with air, and do a driving test with a trailer. i said that's the same as gettin a class 1 isn't it? dmv said yeah

so you can haul a pup or a float with condition 15? it was a letter from your employer saying you need to be able to pull a trailer? if it's that easy to be able to haul a float i'm gettin a condition 15 stamp too!!

according to our local DMV (digby) you have to take the instructor for a drive with your trailer to get the endorcement.. but it's only if you want to haul 4500kg +

if i was to go for another driving test with a trailer i'd borrow an 18weeler and get a class1. not much you'd put on a tag along that weighs less than 4.5 tonne anyways. i'd say a pretrip inspection of truck and trailer would have to be done too?
