Got an 82 Eagle (yes, Eagle) 258, automatic. How much trouble dropping the engine into the 87 YJ with a 5 speed? (I know i'll have to change over motor mounts and Flywheel.) Are the bolt holes in the right places? I read somewhere that crank has to be machined where the trans shaft would meet it? Any Ideas?

Alan might be able to help you out, he sort of went the other way, he put an XJ tranny/TC/rearend and a 4.0 head with EFI in his Eagle with the 258.

I don't believe he has all the bugs out yet, but he's close. Actually, it may just be the rest of the work that he needs to finish on it.

You don't have to do anything to it, just bolt it on. Blake and I put an Eagle engine in his YJ. Dodge used to not machine the cranks for pilot bearings, of engines hooked to an auto. Never seen this on an AMC.
I'm going to get back at the Eagle project this weekend. Just have a few odds and ends to finish up, a bit of bodywork and paint it.

hey all. the last engine i put in before the 1 i have now was out of an eagle there is a bearing in the end of the crankshaft for the 5 sp trans to ride on( pilot bearing) make sure you put it in the crank of the eagle engine. other than that all is good for the change.

Thanks very much! I orig. bought the Eagle for the engine (for my other Eagle). Both are lawn ornaments now, if anyone needs any parts. I have two complete cars, one '82 wagon and one '81 SX4 hatchback.
