ill try to explain this the best i can...here goes...

ok i dont know if ill be able to describe this properly, but its on my 1990 YJ 2.5L TBI , the question is about a connector i found with nothing on it. its right around where the throttle body is, on a black 1" wide by about 12"s long? just a guess at the measurements bu coul dit be called the fuel rail?? it runs from the fron to back direction, and right in the middle of it on top theres a little threaded connector that has a pin in it, if i press the pin in with my fingernail it shoots gas out!! i know something must have to connect to this bu ti have no clue what as i dont see any connector lying around that area. what would this connection be?? also if im trying to work on something in that vecinity of th eengine (tightened the belt today) and touch any of the wires, connectors etc, when i start it up the check engine light comes on , then if i turn it off, jiggle the connections and wires around then start it again its no ton and stays off, should i worry about this?? bad connection that needs fixing? also i get horrible mileage in it and the exhaust smells a little rich maybe? also i cleaned out the threaded ccv connection into the crankcase and since doing that my oil pressure is close to normal but im still gettin a little oil in the air filter and in the fresh air hose that goes into the top of the crankcase, shoul di clean all the hoses out or is there another small spot where thigns could get gummed up and force the oily vapours into my filter??

TIA for any info on any of these issues, ive been kinda hessitant to start a new post on one small problem bu now i have quite a few so i figured id unload them all, hopefully u guys can shed some light on these things? thanx again for any suggestions or answers!!

The valve that you are talking about on the fuel rail is called a schrader valve. It is used to release the pressure in the fuel rail and care should be taken when you release the pressure if the motor is hot. I believe you are just missing the black cap that goes over it.

You can read the check engine code by doing the following: Turn the ignition switch ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON and observe the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. The CHECK ENGINE LIGHT should begin to flash a series of codes. The flashes will be separated by short an long pauses. The long pauses separate the "ones" and "tens" positions, and each code from the next. A code 55 will be displayed at the end of the test.

After reading the code you can reference the problem to the following:
11 IGN reference signal.
12 Battery input to PCM disconnected during last 50 key starts.
13 Fault in the map sensor pneumatic circuit.
14 Fault in the map sensor electrical circuit.
15 Fault in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.
17 Engine running too cool.
21 Problem in the oxygen feedback circuit.
22 Fault in the coolant temperature sensor circuit.
23 Air temperature sensor.
24 Intake air temp. sensor voltage high.
25 Fault in the IAC motor drive circuit.
27 Fault in injector driver interface circuit.
33 Fault in air conditioning cutout relay circuit.
34 S/C solenoid circuits.
35 Fault in fan relay circuit.
41 Fault in the charging system or no field current.
42 Fault in the ASD relay driver circuit.
44 Battery Temp Voltage.
46 Battery voltage is too high.
47 Battery voltage is too low.
51 Lean condition is indicated.
52 Rich condition is indicated.
53 Internal problem in module.
54 No cam position signal.
55 Completion of fault code display.
62 Unsuccessful attempt to update EMR mileage.
63 Unsuccessful attempt to write to an EEPROM location by the controller.

To help with your gas mileage try a good old fashion tune up and include spark plugs, wires, oil and air filter and check tire pressure.

If your jeep is a 1990 yj you will not get codes from the switch / this was not an option untill 91.
But 1990 did not have a schrader valve , so im going with 22/23/24 or any one code to do with O2 sensor

ok so adre the whole ignition on/off thing wont work for me? thats whaut your saying right? also whut could that little vlave be? i heard that its a fuel pressure test point?? and Dave thnx for the info i recently did replace plugs and wires and oil change and new air filter. i hope that ignition on/off code thign works as id like ot figure out what was tripping the light myself instead of paying someone 50 bux to hook up a diag to it. thnx guys fo ryour help~!

You should get a bicycle tire valve cap for the schrader valve so you can keep dirt from clogging it. Also when you press the valve stem you should put a cloth over it to prevent getting sprayed by gas. In the summer when I replaced the tank in the XJ I found out this little well known secret a little too late. lol Good thing that I always wear goggles when working on the Jeep or it could have been worse.
