We all have done them, stuff that we thought would be cool, then tore them off when it didn't work as advertised or envisioned.
For me? -Home-made snorkel - looked terrible, got ripped off on the first tree, not really needed on 37's, junk -Traction bar - might have worked, but new rear leaves with an anti-wrap leaf made it un-needed

1. snorkel. useless, gets ripped off, looks stupid. They are for driving at highway speeds in the desert to put the air intake above the dust you are producing. in north america they are an easy bolt on and easy to sell to the crowd that wants a certain look. They do very little to help with waterproofing, beyond a false sense of security, which gets you in trouble when you dunk it and have not waterproofed your ignition or breather lines.
2. Its a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand stickers. the Jeep equivilent to Calvin taking a leak. screams 'newb!'
3. control arm drop brackets.

X3 on the snorkle.
Any body lift over 1" - 1.25" to clear motor mount lift or belly-up skid mods os the only reason. Add nothing but tire clearance. Poser mod.
The fake beadlocks on the procomp wheels
Bigger tires with no other upgrades (read... Brakes, axles, gears etc)

Agree on the "it's a Jeep thing..." decals. I know it's a Jeep thing, I could care less if anyone else understands or not.
Not really a "bad" mod but definitely one where I kicked my ass for doing it, was my 2" Spacer lift. I drop a couple hundred bucks on a spacer lift and then literally a week later go out and spend another couple hundred on a coil lift with shocks. Should have just got the coil lift In The first place. I guess that's all part of being a newb, gotta start some where.

Homemade steering! Glad that broke years ago. Removing the master cylinder 4 months ago, brakes haven't worked since.

But, you were expecting mud of that magnitude (our engines can't repel mud of that magnitude!! (sorry, had to )), and had the rest of the engine waterproofed?

This was my first of 3 TJ's... 2000 TJ Sport (pic was back in 02-03). Note the snorkle and that big ARB bumper Seemed like a good idea at the time It was the first snorkel that Andre's brother Matt ever installed... he was pretty nervous about cutting up my 'newer' jeep lol And yes... I hate that saying "it's a jeep thing" and I have to add "welcome to the addiction" ;D

Oh.. and I would also like to add cheap rhino/hippo/gator guard crap... If I ever line the inside of a jeep again it will be with the professional grade stuff... (and yes I prepped it well etc etc )

attaching my hi-lift to my rear tube bumper with muffler clamps, it lasted a total of 25 minutes on the trail.

Custom "homemade" rear bumper for my TJ from a YJ front bumper. Looked cool but was mounted wrong and bent on the first tug Rick

Putting a rooftop tire carrier on.
Hard to get a 33" tire 7' in the air, and it hit on every deadfall on the trail.
