I have a mig 120v welder, I had purchassed some wire from praxair last year, the wire with the flux in it, but i threw the empty roll away and forgot to write down what kind it was & size. The thickest steel Im welding would be less than 1/4". The reason I even ask is cause you guys recomended this wire and I found it great wire for a newb to weld with opposed to the stuff I got from PA, which sucks. Any thoughts on size of wire also

Wire size is dictated by your machine. look at the wire drive wheels and see what is says. Most flux core is .035"
I like lincoln wire, you can get it at CrappyTire. Yes, the Pa stuff sucks, the flux seems to be damp sometimes and splits and pops way more than lincoln.
Gas wire is copper colored, flux is usually a steel color. I forget the codes....I can just tell by looking. CT has them labelled on the shelves.
Gas wire is a solid wire. Flux Core wire is a hollow tube with the flux inside.

Look at your tip and see what the # is , that would be the size you had. I run .30 " FirePower ,i find that it's not as dirty as the Lincoln wire . Lincoln wire is good too but don't bother wasting your time on the P.A, stuff.

I pick up my wire at Nova industrial supplies. I prefer .030 for sheet metal, and .035 for welding heavier metals.
just out of curiosity, what do you all pay for your wire? I take 10-lb rolls. I think my flux-core wire was either $78.00 or $67.00 plus taxes...

Is the color of the wire always that way jan? I have some silver colored .035 but the original box is gone. I think its flux, but really no way to be sure.

The good" brands are the praxair stuff, Lincoln and even the BOC brand.

I found the ESAB self shielding wire quite good as well. Fastenal Carries it.

Rob D there is a code, but reading it is escaping me right now. letters in the code tell if its flux or not. as for the color, i've never seen copper colored flux core.
