It's probility about 2 hours a wheel. There is alot of grinding to get the old centers out. All together it wasn't too bad but these will not but run on the road.

What are you talking about? cutting new centers, or cutting the welded center out of the rims in the first place....or removing the old center welds....or wha?

if your asking about removing the old centers i think cutting the welds with a cutoff wheel on the grinder then beating the centers out and grinding the old welds is probility the best way... unless you have a big lathe then you might have an easier solution.

one house to the left of Mudmagnets place used to be a good machinist that had an old tire machine he rigged for cuttin steel and aluminum rims to be resized. nifty rig he had setup for oxy-ace at first then had a cutting edge like one off a lathe mounted to do cleaner work.

8-)what do you think threw the rim, the heat from the plasma cut or the initial weld stress from the rim assembly. A 15 inch centre continuously welded would expand close to 1\8 then retract about 3\16 while cooling if to fast.

Thanks Scott I'm very pleased with it. Now to put em on the buggy. That will be this weeks work along with a new fuel pump to get her out of the snow drift it's been in since it was parked in October. Now that I live back home I'll have some time.

well i finally got all 4 tires mounted on the wheels. they look great all together. next step is to dig this neglected ol buggy out, have to put a new fuel pump on it, put some gas in it, then take the red top battery out of the mini van to put back in the buggy and then i can mount the tires on it.
