Mudmagnet needed some rings cut out 'cause he traded tires with Rue and the actual rims went with them. they kept their own centers. Unfortunately, the rims weren't the same dims and Mike got this big space where the center was supposed to just weld in. I didn't have any sheets to cut up full rings and Mike wasn't paying for steel and was in git'er-done mode, so we scabbed around and came up with this idea. Cut from scrap 3/16". i suggested 1/4", but Mike thought this would be fine. the holes are just for lining it up, they match the rim center bolt circle. Will be able to set the backspace anywhere. a little gusset This is what it will look like, and welded all around the new pieces. The bolt holes are not being used, don't worry. Hope it works out. ;D

great idea to save on material costs. if he's worried about strength, a flat bar rib on the inside would gain alot of strength.
most stock ford rims, untill 1980-85 ish were riveted with about 10 5/16 rivets......

Most all rims are only welded on the inside a few inches anyway.

not that I need to know but how can you be sure on centering, or what would the process be,?

the small holes in the tabs will be bolted snug, they are on a matching bolt circle, and then welded on to the center. the OD of the tabs should then fit the rim.

Mike isn't real picky. i'd be more concerned about concentricity on a street rig, and would want to check the runout by chucking them in a big lathe. These wheels will never see the road.

The ISO standard defines concentricity as the difference between centres rather than median points of diametrically opposed elements. I like that word.

Yes, i did not mean to use the terms as interchangable. a bent rim could show runout, while still being perfectly concentric with the wheelcenter.
If you have a pretty good idea the rims aren't bent - you could chuck the wheel center in the lathe, make the wheelcenter spin true, and dial the OD of the rim - it would be readily apparent the concentricity was bad by the interpretation of the runout.
A bend would show on one area of the rim, while bad concentricity would show as a diametric offset between the wheelcenter and the rim.
