After the run yesterday I have a new favourite mod. Yes... Surprise, surprise... My RCV axles. For the increase in wheeling enjoyment that comes from peace of mind. One of the things I have always hated since I started wheeling with a front locker is axle carnage. I broke one two summers ago behind Kent homes with Adam Smith recovering some dude in a Bronco and then again with a break last winter following Jan (LJ) through a little ice obstacle. Both tiny tiny obstacles but with the weight on the front end, snappy, snappy... This is an advance in tech that I am really happy with. ;D So let's hear it ladies and gents, what's your single favourite mod?

Right on Len, the RCV's are great "peace of mind", that is why Cindy and I bought ours... They are tough, so tough even Chuck Norris can't break 'em!! I have too many favorite mods...my first fave had to be my Warn rock sliders (which are for sale), I learned early on that if you have rock rails you can almost go anywhere, as long as you can get your wheel over the biggest rock the rock sliders will do the rest, without them my Jeep would be a right off!! Now that I am locked and can crawl I love my boatsides, having 3 feet of clearance under my doors makes conquering some obstacles nice and smooth where I see others get hung up on their rockers. My front locker is another fave, it is almost silly to go rock crawling without one, it allows your front wheels to pull you over the obstacle rather than a rear locker which pushes you over the obstacles giving you less control over your vehicle, it also allows you to crawl over rather than needing momentum to get over it. My favorite mod though has to be my doubler, I love to crawl, what a great feeling on an obstacle when you can crawl over it without touching the clutch, gas or brake and going so slow that it gives you time to watch what you are doing and correct your line when needed. Not to mention the amount of gear options, 20 forward, 4 reverse plus being able to run front wheel drive only for tight cornering or maneuvering when you don't want power to the rear wheels (digs). Another one, it's not really a mod but GOOD tires are a must, without them everything above may not help you go anywhere. I've run many different sets (New Cooper STT, old Cooper STT, BFG KM2, Maxxis Creepy Crawlers, Swamper LTB, BFG AT) but my all time favorite tire in all seasons were my TrXus, they may not last the distance you would get out of a KM2, but their softer compound wrapped and gripped rock like no other tire I've used, on the road in Winter I don't think you'll find another tire that will give you as much traction on packed snow and ice other than possibly an Irok... And a free mod that not a lot of people take advantage of is airing down those tires. Winches, well I learned my lesson there, I thought I would try to get away with one of those $400. winches that pop up here and there, the one I picked up was a Champion, well I managed to break three of them in one Summer before I saw a deal on a Warn 8274, the 8274 that I picked up was almost 40 years old but it was a workhorse, and super fast, still faster than any winch on the market today, and if it does let you down, 90% of the time it's just a solenoid, the winch is easily rebuild-able with parts that are easily available. I used it for years, put a new cable on it and sold it for the same price I paid for it and went to pick up a deal I got on a Warn Powerplant as I wanted to have an air source for the Jeep and I absolutely love my newer Warn, I will not buy anything but Warn from now on!! Oops, I just noticed you said " single" favorite mod...lol Cheers!! Jeff

You actually have to install the RCV's Jeff to get the peace of mind. LOL
The IROKs are the absolute BOMB in the snow. Ran at 10 lbs on the topless run. Think I will be airing down to that point on all future runs where the conditions warrant it.
Ditto on the PowerPlant.

Hahaha Len, Cindy's are in, mine should be by the time the snow is gone No hurry, I do have chromoly shafts in there now Oh and one thing I left out was suspension, I have to say that I am extremely happy with the quality and performance of my Rock Krawler long arm suspension, I have wheeled my Jeep very hard for three years and haven't replaced a bushing, a rod end or anything on the suspension...One of the very BEST suspensions on the market!!! Cheers!! Jeff

I'd have to say my rock rails. They're 2X4s, and act as splash guards, steps, high lift points,... I've used them multiple times to pivot around rocks and trees... I can walk around my Jeep without touching the ground witch is great for cleaning the roof of snow and mud. The only drawback is giving up a bit of ground clearance. Sorry for the old pic. Close second would be my tube fenders and Warn on board air.

My best mod would be the front locker I just installed and got to try it out on the weekend. Worked good dont hear it on the road and dont feel it on the road.

My favorite mod is my Scottanchee flat belly skid, when my rig actually makes it to a trail it gets hung up on the belly pan far less than it ever did with the 'shovel' design of the stock t-case skid. I gained about 2" of clearance at the belly of my rig IIRC, which would be the equivalent of going to 35s James

I'd have to say front locker too, huge improvement in both the CJ and the ZJ. I bent the main leaves at the rear eye in the CJ a few times before it had one from the front, wheels being pushed up over rocks. With the locker it pulls the front up, never bent one again.

I guess I'm going to have to say power brakes, but the jury is still out. They work great so far but the adjustable proportioning valve is still in the mail, and I haven't ventured very far yet. Locking up all 4 35's is easy. Put the biggest (9") dual diaphragm booster I could fit under the hood.

Hmm, I think its a tie: My 30-spline long in the Roach have gotten me into and out of places I had no business being. ...But I really like that hot-rod AMC 258 in the CJ

axle swap's rear Dana 70 and front Dana 44. They are 4 inches wider than stock but with 8 inch wide rims they look right.
