Thx JP. I'm getting a lot of similar stories and interest and support. People are interested in this project! BA asked "where are we gonna put the kids?" lol now i'm looking into making an extended cab! gotta plan ahead. I'll have this thing for a long time, try to make it like nothing else. can't get the image of doing a coal-rolling DT466 turbo burnout with stacks and supersingles on the back with a load on.....I've got a line-lock tucked away for it already. She's gonna be a big mean b*tch!

Welcome to my world.."Hey that's cool, does it come in a 4 door?" It does make it easy for me to pass on trucks like that stepside J2000, and I never have to dream of that jeep truck concept. By the time that thing got 4 doors it wouldn't have a box!

i know where there's an old IH truck junked in the woods... it used to be my grandfathers.... if i remember, i'll stop by this fall on a camp run, and see if it's still there. it was only a 1/2 ton, but the cab stuff should be the same as yours

Its been a long time since my first and second cars, but I'm finally back in the big-block game. Not a Mopar......but should do the trick in a pinch. ;D Got a 454 sitting in the bed of my pickup from out Stewiake way. Picked it up a little while ago, and came to work. I can see it out the window in the parking lot, want to play with it soooo bad, but I'm workin. '76 block, out of a motorhome, 60000km original build. Listened to it running, sounds pretty good, tight. No puffs of smoke and quiet valvetrain. a true drop-in runner. Its got HEI, big fat race wires, chrome valve covers, and an Edelbrock dual-plane intake. after a bit of haggling, i got the deal I wanted, but the seller kept the carb. (I have a couple anyway) I'm now looking for a standard flywheel/pressure plate/clutch, if anybody's got some of that stuff.

look at it this way - its going to be better than 4 trips to one place hauling two trailers.
If I get the 454 average of 7mpg towing loaded, I'll be better off. And 1/2 the time behind the wheel.
If I get rich, I've been looking at the Gear Vendor overdrives for the SM465, pretty cool, you can split the gears, and its like a 25-30% increase in milage. they cost something like $3K tho.
I'm going to research brownie aux. trans, and see if there is a cheaper way to overdrive the 4speed with a big-rig aux. OD unit. i have plenty of drivetrain length to fix extra hardware. air shifter on the trans stick would be cool.
