I'm out.... won't be making it this year with the YJ.... fired it up once I had the radiator in and full of coolant, and discovered that the rear main seal is fawked. nobody has one close by, and there is no point in trying to rig it up. I'll order a new seal, and will finish up the rest of the work to the heep that I had originally planned to. FAWKIN PISSED........

Sorry to hear that Dan. Surprising that no one has something as simple as a rear main seal.

bit of an update time. I drove the YJ outside on saturday, only to shear off the tack welds holding the rear d44 to the spring perches. I only noticed this when I felt something binding, and upon looking underneath, I discovered the pinion pointing about 10° DOWN from level. I was working with about a 25-30° angle. I may have freaked out for a second, at the thought that my freshly rebuilt driveshaft, re-welded to custom length, may have been destroyed. I was lucky though, and all that I damaged were the bolts holding the straps on, they are now rounded on one side each. anyways, tonight, I fully welded the perches, they won't be going anywhere now. here are a few shots of how things are coming together. don't mind the chain-falls, I have them on there keeping the tub lined up where it needs to be before I bolt it where it has to go. I fawked up really bad with the body, and it is twisted in every direction now because of it, so I have some work do do to get it back close to where it needs to be. my new OTK steering with 7075 T6 Aluminum tie rod and drag link, and early-80's Blazer rod ends. this is basically how things will be when it's all done. I have some rough body work to do, and painting, but it's usable as is, i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo113/imasoldier13/jeep%20rebuild/IMG_8726.jpg[/IMGIMG]http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo113/imasoldier13/jeep%20rebuild/IMG_8728.jpg[/IMG] here's a little closer shot of the boat-side. I added a little piece to the bottom of the fender to match the boat-side, and made the existing tube flare fit, but cutting it and shortening it a few inches. she's a fat ol' girl here's my rear driveshaft. I don't think it's too bad, and there's no binding, after doing a PILE of grinding to the centre-section of the double-cardan joint. I wasn't sure if i was going to get enough out of it, but I think it will finally do. anyways, if the weather is fit tomorrow, I'll get a little more stuff done.

Trevor Came down today to give me a hand, so we got at the rear body mounts first. I decided to go with a comp-cut-style rear body mount, getting rid of the second last and last set of mounts all at once. dad and I had pulled the top and roll bar out before Trevor showed up, to make it easier to work around, so I snapped a couple of shots bare-back. and we started in on the passenger side boad-side. right now it is only tacked in place, but it is holding the passenger door in line, so I'm happy with that. before we made the first cuts for this side, I had to hold down on the door for it to line up so I could close it, due to the work I did on the driver side, since I was an ass and didn't brace anything before I cut the shit out of the body tub. there was a small piece of material missing from this boat-side. the PO had used it for another project. no problem though, found a chunk in my scrap pile and filled it in. some lines I drew on to see where the fenders should end up, compared to the driver side. the passenger side floor pan after I had the boat side put in place. it needs a bit of filling, and some moving with the BFH, and a patch where the wife's feet will be, but that shouldn't take too much work. the driver's door. I found a happy medium between the door lining up with the seam of the body, and the vinyl. I'm not going to complain. and it closes like a new door.

Scott, I actually moved the xj springs forward about 3" or 3 1/2". I didn't wanna move it too far forward, cuz I think comp cuts with less than 8" of stretch and under a 39" tire are er than Sir Elton. I instead ended up with the rear end about 3-4" further back. just enough to make it work a bit smoother on the climbs, and ride a bit better on the road. Thanks for the comments. I was hoping to get out and do some more floor work this evening, but I had to take the Wife's car to the shop and change some tires so it's ready for an alignment tomorrow morning. maybe tomorrow I'll be back at it.
