Well time to kick off what will likely be a long rebuild thread. I have been driving my 81 Toyota 4x4 around for about three years now. I didn't build it but I sure put a lot of hours into it...fixing things that were not done right or broke over the years. Still it has treated me well and I take it everywhere. The old thing is sadly getting tired and in need of repair...what a perfect time to start from scratch.
So here is how it sits today...
and the plan is to start with a 2WD 1 ton frame ... convert it to a 4WD frame ad a ton of support, bolt in a modern GM 5.3L engine converted to carb using beefed up Toyota running gear and transmission. Add a some rust free parts from down south and a ton of stuff from Trail Gear and I should have a pretty cool and strong rig.
Well like all projects I am starting with cleaning up and organizing the garage. The last few years have been dedicated to a Nissan 300zx I rebuilt and finally have almost done. So part of the cleaning is getting rig of stuff from that project that is no longer needed, organizing the shop and getting ready.
The build should fairly quick...as I have been collecting parts and pieces for the last two years in anticipation of this winter.
So I started last night with organizing the garage...here are some pics of my home away from home...you can see that most of a Toyota is in here...
Here is a box I got in Arizona along with a cab I got in Bridgewater.
My Axles.... 84/85 Toy axles with selectable taco locker...I'm putting a spartin in the back.
my 5.3L GMC engine from a 2002 Tahoe...its all bagged up as I cleaned it...panted and put the Carb on it already....wanted to keep the dust away
Axles, leafs and R150f Toyota v6 Tanny...rebuilt and ready to go in.
Some other random shots of the shop...
BTW anybody want to buy an xr50r?
Well wish me luck. I have lots of work ahead of me. The shop cleaning will be done by the end of the weekend...the 300zx goes into storage on Saturday and I have to start first with taking the Toyota apart.
