The body looked very decent, frame had rust. I started at the frame and it was dust to say the least.Bought another frame, really solid one.Made a few small repairs and then went at the body.
The floor work started not to far behind the firewall, and ended just shy of the tailgate. The floor bracing under the drivers seat was mush,as was so much more. This one Kinda sickened me on the jeeps for a bit.
I had a 1990 with a 4 cylender I loved but the lack of power did it in. This one had the power, but by the time I was done I hated it so bad,the slave cylender gave me a little bit of trouble so I sold it to my cousin cheap.
Hopefully I will have a few more pictures later this week of the finished rocker and maybe even the daystar kit installation.

I can say for sure that your YJ is so much better shape than 99% of them out there, mine included. Make sure you go through with proper prep and bedlining the interior. Fewer and fewer YJ's are being saved, and you got a good one.

Rob I changed my mind with the bedliner. Mainly because I'm scraed of something getting under it and rust happening with me noticing it until its a hole. The old thing is pretty solid and I'd like to keep it that way. I will use it offroad, but it is going to be 90% daily driver at least for a couple years then it may get built for more serious offroad use. I am going to put the carpet and panels back inside it for now,I have to find the front section of carpet for it,it seems to be on the missing list.
I just took some pictures Dan,I will get them on here tonight.

Yea, wet carpet is the reason all of these open top jeeps have the tub rust out so fast in the first place. At the very least, I would etch/prime and then paint the inside of the tub. Then throw some rubberized floor mats in. The bedliner would be a better choice, as long as you prep well so as not to trap moisture.

I know about wet carpets and rust, owned a couple t-top cars and one convertable, lesson learned there. The carpets are easily removed and will be at least once a week for cleaning,I'm a bit of a neat freak. If the top is off it will be parked in the garage to keep the rain and the neighborhood cats out of it.I rockgaurded the forward part of the floor after etch primming it so I think that should keep the rust away.

Overall I am very happy with the turnout with this part of the project done.I am now in the process of redoing my tailgate hinges, they are in bad shape.
I think I have an idea that will work for them and make them sturdy enough to hang my spare on for now.

I took the hinges off the gate and took them apart. They were in really bad shape, the pins wore into the part that bolts to the tub pretty bad. One of these I drilled the pin out,the other I pressed apart. Not really sure which way was better, the drilling was actually quicker. After taking them apart I drilled the brass bushing and the other part fo the hinge out to half inch. This got rid of all of the out of round that was there. Then I drilled the small hole on the inside out big enough for a press in grease fitting and sandblasted all pieces.

After primming and painting the parts I pressed the grease fittings in,should have done that before paint. Then I test fit everything to get the length of the bolt right.I used a half inch bolt that was too long so I could get the shank of the bolt inside the brass bushing so the threads wouldn't cut into it,causeing it to wear out quickly again.

Thats pretty much it for the hinges, just rebolt to the rear of jeep when I finished them.Going to dig the tire carrier out later today and get it mounted back up. I also have to readjust the catch for the gate,it was like this for a very long time I would say,not easy to close at all.

you should look into fabing up a bumper mount tire carrier, the tire is what kills the bushings in the gates

I think I will Zach once I go bigger then 31's. I plan on lifting it this summer or fall then next winters project will be building bumpers for it. Ordered a drivers fender for it today,I am just trying to get some of this small stuff done before I start driving it.I am bad for leaving the little things alone if I am daily driving something,so I figure I get some of the small things out of the way now I will not forget about them later.
