So I discovered what the problem was with that last bend... and what that snapping noise was when I was doing it. LOL Now, where did I put that GD receipt...

Since you bought it less than one year ago, your receipt will still be in their system. That is why they ask for your phone number. All your purchases, I think up to a year, are in their database. ;D Just have to show up with the broken part at the service desk, and ask them to look it up. Of course, it would be much easier with the receipt. ;D

Looks to me like exactly the kind of damage that would be caused by having too much shim on the sides. If the bottom of the pipe never properly sat on the saddle to disperse the load, then all that force would go to the sides due to the shimming.

How is that different then building up the sides with weld to achieve the same results?
The pipe does sit in the bottom of the die after a couple pumps.

Would depend on how how far down you're pushing your shim and how thick it is. And yeah... too much weld built up on the sides might cause the same thing. All I'm saying is that damage seems to have been caused by the casting being pushed apart. Get another die and try it again. lol

Just for Bill ;D That's about 1/4", which is what most write ups say you should have when welding the dies. I tried to see if it touched the bottom as I went, but couldn't really tell. If it doesn't I would think that 90% of the lower half is touching.

LOL will do! ;D
I'm just sayin' that this is no different then what everyone else does... just that I'm using shims instead of weld. Do other guys break dies?

So, if it cracks again, you'll be in agreement there IS a difference?
