I think your gonna find that the rim is not big / heavy enough to hold up a long pipe with out wanting to tip over . Could be a pita

That's the same drill I have, just mine is Craftsman grey. Do you have the side handle for it?
Only trouble I have had is that the chuck is a bit worn, years of it overpower it's grip on the bit.

Just curious.
Instead of buiding a new stand would a swivel base vise work just as well? Or are you really too close to the wall?

Neat idea, but still too close to wall. between the drill sticking out one side and needing to stand behind it to push, and long pipe sticking out the other side, the vice just wasn't going to work.
The stand isn't tippy, its pretty heavy down low. If I'm cutting a long imbalanced pipe, I have a roller stand from the bandsaw to hold up a corner.

I got a chance to try this out tonight... it's pretty impressive. Ultra beef. There's not hurting this thing. The stand works well. If you're pushing enough to lift the wheel off the ground you're pushing way too hard.
The protractor wasn't set to zero, so through a bit of trial and error I got it to a true zero for Jan (what I was doing wasn't that fussy) Jan plans to hog out the screw holes in order to turn it enough. He may chime in with pics that better explain.
The only other issue I noticed is barely worth mentioning, but when I'd adjust the angle I noticed that in tightening it would shift a deg or two. I just had to hold it from swiveling when tightening.
As a side note, I bought a Lenox 1.25" hole saw and made 12 cuts. The last cut went just as well as the first. I was impressed how little effort it took to go through.

Glen's saw looked the same as the milwakee and greenlee, btw.
Thanks for finding the degree wheel issue.
The problem is that when the notcher is at zero degree's measured from the frame, the degree indicator can't get to zero. Its off by a couple of degrees. So I'm gonna pop it off and make the holes bigger, so it is all zero's up properly.

Glen's saw looked the same as the milwakee and greenlee, btw. Mine had cool "pop out" holes, wich also helped instal/ removal.

dewalt shop will have rebuilt units for 1/2 price of new , no trigger lock like Makita's for your thumb to lay over and the better units have a clutch so when bound up they don't break your arm off anymore . Funny Hawks and t-dogg .... had trigger lock go on a Makita once with 4" hole saw and fetched up ...... wound up a 50' extension cord before it unplugged . That hurt the wrists for a day or 2 lol

I do like the new ones with the clutch. I'm also left-handed, but I have learned to try to use drills right-handed so as not to interfere with the trigger-lock. then when I want the lock, it is there. I thought I was the only one too Paul. my arm looked like a barber pole, red/white/red/white from the cord wrapping around me. and I think it sprained my wrist, because it still hurt 6 or 8 weeks later when I moved it the wrong way.

The cryo'd Milwakee holesaws are getting great reviews on Pirate4x4. they are avail at Schooner. When I was there, they were sold out of larger common sizes, which kinda tells you something. they are popular in the face of declining quality from other brands.
I didn't try my little one yet, but will keep updating.

Went apeshit on the stand one boring night.... First, fixed the degree wheel to read zero. That was easy. But it was really awkward to move around... Lawn mower wheels and mount studs. Welded some nuts into some pipe and screwed 'em in the ends. Used an angle grinder handle to help move it. Just tilt the base back, and wheel it around where you want. Also added a drill holder, and angle grinder holder for nipping off deep cuts, a powerbar, a holesaw kit, tool holder for adjustments and drill chuck key. Oh, and oil for the saws and paint. ;D Like I said, went apeshit.

do you recall being annoyed by having to plug/unplug the drill to use the angle grinder? That bugged me. powerbar fixed it.
