Decided to start a new thread. Anyone familiar with 4 wheeler engines? I'm almost at the point where I have to take the buggy apart to finish welding. However I would like to get the engine started before I weld it out in case I have to look for a different engine. Sooooo. Since I have never worked on a 4 wheeler before what is needed to get it running and..... What the heck is all this stuff? I suppose that would have been useful info... I'm somewhat forgetful. As far as I know its an old Yamaha 250 (225?) 4 wheeler. A buddy at work thought it was a moto 4.

The last item is the voltage regulator.
Black box in the 1st pic is most likely the cdi
Probably a lot of that harness was for idiot lights and such. That looks like a pretty basic engine, shouldn't need a lot to make it go.

SO I would need the CDI, coil, regulator and ? That would probably be it. Maybe someone else here has more experience dropping in ATV engines and getting them to run, but I can't think of anything else needed. Oh, your coil is laying on top of the carb, but the plug wire coming out of it was a giveaway. ;D

also you need the stator which should be behind the flywheel, it makes your voltage. regulator controls the level, cdi controls timing and spark signal, then coil

Bottom right of the first pic is a boot, top right of the first pic is a galvanized nail (possibly 2" common?), but I don't think you will need either of them and definitely don't try to combine the two.

i dont see the cam cover in the pics? on the old hondas they had the magnito behind the flywheel but the cdi got its signal from a guismo on the the side of the head run by the cam. you should b able to find wirring diagrams for it on the net. Attachments:
