A diver's paradise. Bit difficult though because of how ruff and shallow it is. I stopped diving before i got to go there. Dingwall was the closest I got. I forget how many shipwrecks surround the island but its sick. What book was it, The Light Keepers Son?

Ghost Islands of NS. Bunch of Islands from all around the province. Pretty good read.
There is something like 200+ shipwrecks out there. The tour guide said one diver found 3 on top of each other, of different vintage.

Neil's Harbour on the 'Scenic Loop' above the Trail proper. Take the loop, not the Trail, if you want the best views in that area. Tasty Chowder House in this spot. White Point - great (short) hiking trails out to a point into Aspy Bay. easy walking flatbiller from the big city. I will attemp to get to the arrow if I can find the road. Looking from White Point to the shoreline of Aspy Bay. From all the positive comments on the pics, I was inspired to put a little effort into this and have labelled some pics. I want to get to that beach! Drive around some, see a road called 'Shore Road'. Lets try that? It goes from paved, to dirt, to trail, but OK for the 2wd truck. (camper is back at Ingo). Finally we see carved signs saying 'Beach---->' Cool. There is a little parking lot, but no beach in site. But there is this.... 1800's graves, in the middle of the woods. Then a 5 minute walk, and this!......score! Holy Frigholy! This is awesome! Um, not too many people! Its too big to walk it all! Looking North, there's that spot I'm looking for the road to again.

So after an hour or two at the beach, some lunch, and a sneakie poopie in the woods, ;D We headed back out to the more travelled road. Drove out towards Markland 'Resort' (cabins) in Dingwall. It was clear enough to see St Paul Island. See it? On the horizon, to the right of the white boat. Barely visible. Nice little museum dedicated to the island. The lighthouse is from out there! Its cast iron plate segments. It was stored at the Dartmouth Coast Guard dock when removed from the island. After double checking my book, there are 350+ shipwrecks, and 1000+ buried dead. Its about 16km offshore, and 1x3miles in area. Surrounded by cliffs, there are only two (not very) safe landing spots, the rest is sheer rock. More pics later....anything i cropped/zoomed isn't uploading and its pissing me off and I have to go to work. later! edit: from the CH Aug5/12 SYDNEY — The St. Paul Island southwest lighthouse is Nova Scotia’s first to be designated a heritage lighthouse.
The announcement was made Friday by Environment Minister Peter Kent during a visit to Sydney. Kent is also the minister responsible for Parks Canada.
“We received 348 petitions for protection of lighthouses,” said Kent.
Petitions came from groups and individuals in eight provinces, hoping to get heritage designation for the marine lights so that they would be protected and preserved.
The St. Paul Island southwest lighthouse is a vintage 1917 cast iron building, squat and painted the traditional colours of red and white. It was moved from the island during the 1980s and located at the Dartmouth Coast Guard station.
Two years ago, a campaign in the northern Cape Breton community of Dingwall resulted in the lighthouse being repatriated to the community.
The lighthouse and three others in Ontario received designation under the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act on the recommendation of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.
Announcements about more designations are expected.
