Anyone in this area do any welding? I need to get a spot fixed before the winter on my 2001 xj. Its getting a little soft where the gas tank tubes go through the frame. I dont have access to a welder and the one at the shop i work in isnt very good. Plus i'd like to have it done properly before i lift the jeep. Thanks

Unfortunately Apesteguy's sarcasm is undetectable on the internet. While I do have a welder, it's a 70amp arc welder, which is basically a microwave with leads that go to a welding rod. I can certainly slap some weld on there for you, but it's not going to do anything other than look like Ray Charles had a go at it.

I have the same here. 70 amp walmart stick and a shitty mastercraft fluxcore lol
Do you have an email cman i can send some pics too? I'll snap some tomorrow after work. Its not broke but soft and a hole under the gas tank fillers. I think the bottom is still solid, and havent looked at the back side.

I totally agree with Scott...my frame started rotting there and during my build i fixed it but it just kept rotting and cracking...i have now pretty much replaced the last 4 feet of the unibody (frame) and made my way up into the front around the crossmember ...i decided even after all my work in my build that i had to give it up and am now starting another project.... just to let you know here is a few pics....

The rest of the frame seemed good. It was full of oil undercoat at some point, just that back spot that looked bad. I haven't taken a hammer to it or anything, but I'll give it a good going over tonight.
