The weight laws changes 2 years ago , actually you are supposed to have your license done for the extra weight and heavy trailer and pull into the scales , whether you have a load or not Agreed, and I did. I'm fine now for the truck and trailers I have. What's ur van reg for? Do you stop? I don't know yet , I'll let ya know lol

When I first got my 2004 F450 with 12 foot flat deck, I registered it for 4400kgs to avoid the commercial plate. I got flagged into the scales just past the airport because "it looks like a commercial truck", even though I did not have a commercial plate on the front. That is when I found out that with a driver and 1/2 tank of fuel, it weighs around 4300 kgs, or 9460lbs. I could legally carry 100kgs on it. To avoid any future possible fines, I have it registered for the full weight on the door tag, which is 17,000 lbs, or 7727kgs. (Any truck or trailer 5001kg and over has to be commercial plated, and use the commercial fee schedule, even if you do not have a business.) It costs me about $410 per year for the commercial plates, and I have to have it inspected every year as well for $110. When you look at the commercial fee schedule, there is a range of weights for a certain fee. i.e. 7001kgs to 8000kgs is $410 per year. You might as well register it for the maximum amount in that range as it does not cost any more. Next time I register the truck, I will register it at 8000kg so that even if I am a little over on the door sticker, I will not be over on the plate. I have a trailer home now that I will register for around 18,000lbs or 8181kgs, and the plate for it will be a bit more than for the truck. But, I may as well register it for 9000kgs as it will cost the same as 8181kgs. Oh, and some of the clerks at MV do not always have the correct answer to your questions. Better to try to look it up online yourself, or at least verify the information you have been given. I have found that they will try to be helpful, and remember, they did not make the stupid rules we have to drive by.

Right, so coomercial plate or blue plate if over 3000kgs has to stop at scale? I've weighed mine with all my different trailers and have yet to get close to my 4499kg truck weight
