Ok, so my wife is looking at differnt jeeps for me, "newer" than the old tj, so here is what she has found www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/cape-breton/2012-jeep-wrangler-convertible/1005893307?enableSearchNavigationFlag=truewww.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/truro/2009-jeep-wrangler-x/1005748068?enableSearchNavigationFlag=trueOnly thing is I keep telling her, with the money to mod alot of stuff, id like to find a rubicon JK / rubicon unlimited TJ, JKU's just a little big for what I need I already have the highlander. The price on the 2012 seems really really good, but ..its basic..so I know as it stands right now my old TJ has gotten me where I want to go...new to me axles D44 rear lockrite, and D30Lp front with ARB has been good, (only on 32's) wondering how much better the 2012's are gas wise. would not be heavy modifications done to it..would be a DD..but if I have to mod anyways is the 2012 worth the extra coin to just get the 3.6L? I dont need a flex king, or Mud King Jeep, I just want to be able to challenge a few obstacles like with the TJ, and have a good driver, Ive had a few jeeps but not much experience with the JK's, auto they start with 321 gear ratio correct, so if I went no bigger than 35's id still need to rip into axle ratio changes also im assuming,

Make sure that the 2012 is the Pentastar 3.6L, there was a mix of the old 3.8L with the 3.6L that year (I was going to buy one, guy at the stealership told me 3.6L, popped the hood and it was a 3.8L).
You have to take a look at the other stuff besides just the engine (even though it has 80hp more). I know that the transmission (auto) that came with the 3.8 was crap, the newer transmission (auto) mates and performs nicely with the 3.6.
Is the $1000 worth better mileage, a newer vehicle which still has factory warranty on it for a bit longer?
If you're planning on regearing either Jeep anyways and doing a few more mods I'd spring for the 2012.

Wha? Didn't you just get the TJ modded to be a good all-around rig? What a waste of time and money to switch it out now. It was only 2 weeks ago I was going to take you out to try out the locker! If you have to use your Jeep for a primary vehicle and pack a family into it, JK has its place...but for beating around the woods as a second vehicle, man, use what you have, its paid for and cheap to keep working. Parts galore for TJ's. the difference in fuel economy is negligible. Especially if you need a loan for the JK. I dunno, I don't get it I guess. The wife's idea? lol

I'd go 3.6, unless you could get a 3.8 rubicon at that range.

I agree with Jan. But if I were to buy a JK that is not a Rubicon, I would find one with 3.73 gears. They are out there, as it was/is an option. But first, I would stick with the TJ for a while, after all the work you just did...

The wife's idea? lol I guess its grass always seems greener on the other side..lol..the TJ is fun to beat around with, has woking A/C, a blast top down, its pretty much where I want it to be. and your right creepy its not a first, its my secondary vehicle, besides I have the next 2 months away at sea, anyone want to tinker with it while I'm away lol......well next step will be a SYE....the D44 shortened my rear DS even more and now its a little more shaky, not unbearable..but noticeable lol..I know it will never be a caddy but ill give it every chance, besides the SYE will pay itself off, saving me from shredding U joints and Pinion seals with vibrations. I don't think ill ever see a gear change, I don't mind it the way it is now..for my type of wheeling..I like the not so low low speed with my lockers in the mud, Its not stuck in crawl, and the 4L well they just go and go...i guess you have all made me realize..just empty every pocket into this one for now..lol...
