Where is a good place to purchase sheet metal for skid plate fabrication?

yup, tell the girls working that Jan MacLean sent you up there. Kelly (the redhead) is manager, she sponsors Valley Crawl and it helps to hear I am sending people up there for business. They might even give you a discount. You can call and get a quote for what you want, but if you want to schmooze go in person. Don't act shocked at the price of steel these days. It's expensive! Top of Burnside behind CAT dealer and close to the jail.

Got some prices, thanks again. Man what a smell up there lol, I'm thinking 3/16 should be adequate for a gas tank skid on a Libby, I don't think the one on my JK is thicker than that.

Yes, its stinks up there. Its a friggin shame to have to work in those conditions.
The place next door 'rots' international garbage off ships in the harbour because it is illegal to dump it to our landfills. They aren't supposed to be doing it, but MetalsRUs can't get any political or by-law support to help them. Its pretty disgusting some days.
3/16 is prob fine, but it really depends more on how its mounted, supported, etc.

the plan is to bolt it the same place where the gas tank straps bolt as well as on the sides of the tank where the frame rails are( not sure if that's the proper name where it's a unibody. There are threaded holes there where I assume a stock skid plate would bolt on. so it will have at least 6 mounting points, possibly 8.

Yeah but how big a span between unsupported sections? It doesn't matter how many bolts are on the perimeter really, that has zero effect on bending the middle.

Hey bending it, is a lot better than a hole in the gas tank
If it bends, take it off and hit it with a BFH and put it back on.
A lot easier than getting tow out of the woods and towed home and buying a new gas tank And putting it on.

This is the progress so far with the gas tank skid for the libby. I have one bend done as well but not satisfied with it at the moment...need to plan out how to bend it more to my satisfaction.

Looks good. You can make cuts with a thin cutting wheel along the bend line to make it easier. Weld it up after bending.
