Warn VR8000Add it to your cart and it knocks the price down to $499, or at least it did for me.

Not that I'm buying one, but I tested and it dropped to $499 for me too. Good deal!

Way too small ,and I have seen 4-5 of them broken , and I am not a fan of Warn winches
There are much better Winches on the market for near the same money

Buy 10-12k . Much better. Whatever you buy. Especially on a big rig like yours

I personally love the WARN winches, and with 2 dealers right here in metro, parts are easy to order if the winch does break down.( or you can just drop it off for repair.) As for to small, the price seems pretty good so why not grab a couple snatch blocks and go with it. A basic recovery IMO, 8000lbs should be good, and if more is needed toss on a snatch block or 2. Wonder what the price difference is between the 8,000/10,000 and 12,000. Could be worth going 10,000 if the dollar amount was not much more.

Two snatch blocks will make the cable the weakest link.

Two snatch blocks will make the cable the weakest link. A 8,000lb winch only has that when all but 6 wraps are left on the drum, the same as 10,000lb or 12,000lb. Using a snatch block only allows you to reach the full pulling strength without having to unwind all the cable. Yes, knowing what your cable is rated for is important but having a 8,000lb winch does not mean the breaking point for the cable is also 8,000lbs. I personally think that for the average jeeper out there, it's not a bad deal.

I never said 8000 was the limit of the cable. 5/16 cable is not up to 16,000 or 32,000lbs for long. Plus using a snatch block or two will cut your available line in half. One snatch block cuts your available line in half. You'll be on the drum pretty fast. On the VR12,000 I ran 80' of 7/16" rope with a 50' 1/2" extension and one snatch block when necessary.
Best winch setup I've ever had.

Two snatch blocks will make the cable the weakest link. That makes no sense Len!

An 8000lb winch comes with 5/16" cable. I don't think 5/16" cable is up to 16,000 lbs. maybe I'm wrong.
###Edit#### I'm wrong. It's 8000 on each line for a total of 16,000. No risk. I've been totally nervous all these years using smaller line. For totally no reason. Never too old to learn something new. Thanks 6 for an explanation dumbed down far enough for even me to understand.
As you were!!

Did you know that taking your winch line to a snatch block and back to your jeep DOES NOT double it's pulling strength. You gain pull because you have used more line off of the spool therefore getting the full pull from the winch. In order to double the pull you must use 2 snatch blocks.
