Some of what you say is kinda true , but for the most part you are wrong Shaun You are doubling down the on the pulling strength , which is giving you the power
And back to the original post
An 8000 pd winch is almost too small for a TJ , let alone a heavy pig like a 4 dr JK

The key in Jan's sketch being the winch line hooked back to the vehicle so it experiences the full 16000 lb force. Force and distance all work into it is what Dan was getting at. Double the force and half the distance the vehicle moves so the winch does the same work per drum rotation. Or something like that... If 'it' is the tree strap, yes. But you appear to be referring to the winch line. The winch lines are seeing two equal loads, whan added together by the pulley, the TREE STRAP sees double. Have another look, the winch line DOES NOT see double load, ever! The winch would stall, the whole purpose of the effort is to keep a small load on winch, while exerting double load on TREE STRAP. second statement makes no sense. lol Haha, yeah, I meant the vehicle and tree strap, not the line. I'm on board with the winch/line only seeing the single load. Second statement was an attempt to agree with Dan that total work done by the winch matters, the snatch block allows the force on the load to double by halving (halfing?) the distance the load travels per unit of work the winch does. Just another way to explain it. I suppose I could've been clearer! Lol. Bottom line: I agree with you and I get what Dan meant.

The percentage increased which is the same as removing 20% from 8000 for each layer. That's what it works out to yes. another way to look at it I guess. you typo'ed 16000 in first reply?, threw me off. Missed that, yeah the 16000 was supposed to be 1600

Well there is one on the front of my jeep now. So far so good.
Pulls fast and has done almost everything I wanted it to. When it didn't it did pull a wj and a 4 door chev truck towards me.
This is better than nothing. A lot of times it just a little pull you need. When heavier I will use a snatch block.
I will post my use of this product.

First off, Jan I love the picture and the fact that you remembered my dog also. lol And yes I agree with you, cable remains 8,000lbs and the tree strap receives double the force. So, having said that lets get back to the original posting. If a 8,000lbs winch (at $499 )with full line out and a snatch block being used can create 16,000lbs of pulling force wouldn't that be enough for the average JEEPer doing weekend trails. :-)

Well this escalated quickly. I treated my 10k super winch like shit for three years now. And still going mint. I know it's a cheaper winch, but when she goes I think I'll get there talon series. I really want a sin rope.

Meh, I bought one of these anyways. Still a damned good self recovery for fairly light solo wheeling.

Update..
This winch pulled a 3/4 ton truck with a v plow on front through a 7' drift.
I am still very impressed with it. On the back country run I pulled some jeeps and trucks on 35s with no issue. On the club run it pulled myself with no issues.
No regreats on this purchase.
