I'm thinking of tearing apart my winch for a good cleaning and inspection. Ever since new it was hard to freespool in cold weather leading me to think the grease used was maybe meant for warmer climates. Has anyone taken there winch apart? And if so i was wondering what type of grease/lubricant you use.
Thanks
Donnie

What winch do you have donnie? I know warns website calls for shell aerograde grease... Personally when I regrease I am going to use a nice marine grade grease to keep moisture out

Smittybilt xrc12,000. I've read complaints about the greases they use causing it to be difficult to freespool in the colder months. Never really used it last year in the winter so i never noticed but have used it quite frequently this year.
