I've been working on my old Eagle, but I need something to drive in as a DD (might lay the Eagle up for a project car for a bit, haul it out to work on properly). My wife told me about a 2004 Jeep TJ Rubicon (w00t inline 6!, and it might be an LJ at that) that she's seen, about 90k on the odometer, and she says it looks in pretty good condition, just came here from somewhere else and supposedly never driven in the salt.
I'm going to take a look at it tonight, and barring any major rust, or busted 4x4, axles or other hidden nightmares, what areas should I look at to ensure I get a few years out of it?
Also, what price should I expect to pay for a 2 door 2004 Rubicon if it's in nice condition? I'm figuring about 8-10k if it doesn't have any real mechanical issues or rot.

Sports in that year go for 10k if in good shape and lower miles... I would expect a rubicon unlimited to go for closer to 15k if it as you describe

04 has the 5 speed a plus in my books..... you are in the ball park on price but if it is an TJ Unlimited Rubicon expect to pay $12-17000. Not a lot of them built.... if an LJ both tops are a must because they are hard to find used and pricy at that. Also know your t-cases as sometimes the Rubicon case has been swapped out for the 231.

It is on Kijiji if you want to take a look at it...... I like the color and it is from up North. No A LJ.

It might be the 2nd one, I'll know for sure this evening.
Looks like they did a bit to it, was probably offroaded a bit up there. Cold air intake, the steps are missing off the sides, all kinds of holes drilled in the front, probably from winches or other attachments like bush bars.

There were never steps on a Rubicon..... they had the rock rails from the factory.

Yeah, that's it. Take a look at those 2 Jeeps, the 1 doesn't have those rails on them.

Yeah, that's it. Take a look at those 2 Jeeps, the 1 doesn't have those rails on them. The Rubicon rockers are just the pieces of diamond plate you can see on both of them. The one just also has some tubular steps someone put on it.

The one in Tom's link from Yellowknife, the front bumper is tweeked a bit on the driver's side. All the holes in it though are normal, mine has all if them as well.

I just made the big step and bought a newer jeep. I was looking 2010 to 2012 but a rubicon came up for about the same money a couple years older.
I have never been happier.
33s lockers and 4 to one tcase rides nice, has great power off road.
For me a bit older but less then 100000 km I do not regret my decision.
Good luck with your purchase hope to see you and your new jeep on the trails soon.
