I'm in need of new front and rear shocks for my TJ (rides like a donkey right now). I was wondering which brands to steer clear of. I don't have a lot to spend, and the TJ is a daily driver but has a 4" lift under it, not much offroad at all though even with the lift.
I've heard bad about ProComp and Skyjacker (which are what blew out - Hydroshocks), and someone mentioned steering clear of Rancho.
What would be a good choice so I'm not rattling my teeth over every bump, and is economical?

steer clear of the Rough Country 2.2's!!! Not stiff enough for a good ride and they leak quickly.
We have the Teraflex shocks on the wife's JK and I'm pleased with how it drives. And they are not expensive either.

I'm still debating the Rancho brand. Should I steer clear or are they ok?

Rancho is made by Monroe. No experience but I concur with staying away from Hydro Shocks in pretty much any brand. Stick with nitro if you can.

I used them on my motocross bike, and I used them on my mountain bike, but use them on my Jeep again it will never happen. Fox shocks at $180 each are not worth it. Yes they can be rebuilt ,but at over $100 each to do that it just isn't worth it. My next shocks frankly will be a HD brand for trucks. Yes the higher end shocks are very cool but if it is your daily driver, high end comes at a cost.

I went from rough country to Bilstein 5100's on my old Rubicon and the difference was night and day. Although they are a little pricey.

I read that the Rough Country 2.2 are junk, but the Rough Country N2.0 are night and day different. With price being a huge factor I'm going to give them a go. Bilstiens are out of my price range

Where would be the best place to pick up some rc 2.0's?

To be honest? Pecks. And I'm a guy that shops around and prefers the internet since it comes to my door.
$255 give or take a few bucks all said and done for the RC N2.0, which is the average. At least with Peck's you're supporting a local business.

Apj's will pretty much get anything, never asked for rc shit though. Got nitro skyjackers there ok, decent for the cash.
