If you could show a pic of your XJ I could give a tip or two. Do I understand that you re-moved the rear most portion of body? I've seen them reenforced with L brackets etc. Again I'd need to se what you've done.

I got this from Pirates. Hope it helps.
"Check the NAXJA site for postings by myself, Crash, Jes and Gary E. We have taken the best of the ideas for making the unibody rigs stronger and here's what we got.
1) Sleeve the unibody "frame rails" with 3x3x 3/16 or 1/4 angel up and down the rail. Cut reliefs in the angle so the the angle will contour to the shape of the rail over it's length.
2) Hack out the stock rockers and replace with 2x6x .120 box tubing. weld this to the sheet metal and the pinch seam.
3) Make an internal cage that has A&B pillars that go thur the floor and connect thru kickers that are welded to the above box tubing and the angle on the rail.
4) Andy, gary and I all drilled thru the roof with our A,b,c,d piilars and tied them together with a halo and roof rack. all the pillars were welded to the roof to seal out water and to add strength to the unibody. C pillars were drilled thru the floor and welded to the "frame rail".
5) Long arm attachments/sub-frames must use sleeve thru the frame rails or th frame rails will crush when the bolts get tightened
6) Steering box and track bar mounts are notoriuosly weak areas. ORGS makes a great reinforcement that you can use or model yours after. This is not optional. Make a brace to tie the track bar mount to the opposite frame rail to keep the frame from flexing around the mount. Ram steering assists will help with both of these problems.
7) Watch for cracking around the rear spring hangers. These can/should be beefed up.
8) More strength can be added to the front end when doing coilovers by bracing the tops of the CO hoops on top of the engine.
In summary, the XJ is a great wheeler for 32" tires right out of the box. Want to run 37s or bigger, you would do well to either do the above chassis mods, or start with a framed rig BTDT, for sure."
