I want to go for longs as they have the NAME, SERVICE and WARRANTY that everyone raves about. Bobby Long always seems to go out of his way to make thing right.

BUt i think if a bunch of people go with a group buy on longs and if you get a better price that way im in for sure, cause i wont need hub gears anyways cause im gonna run a solid flange
And NSOR in Van still sells longs too which good so i hope something goes down witha group buy

We've been working steadily on this this the last update, but just not too much interesting to take pictures of. Frame is all finished, fulled squared up and welded. We had to re-do a couple of the miters that the last guy did to get everything kosher. All the welds were gusseted inside and out. And this is all that remains of the original frame We were able to salvage most of the spring mounts off the old frame, so our next step is to get them on the new frame and get the leaves hung. Paul

Glad it is 30 years old and we don't have to deal with inspection crap...lol I'm wondering the definition of (b) Registered as an Antique Auto An Antique Auto is one which the owner certified that; (a) the vehicle is at least 30 years old or a recognized classic; (b) the vehicle has been tested for originality, running order and safety and certified as such; (c) the antique vehicle is in addition to any other class of motor vehicle registered in the name of the owner and is not used as a family vehicle or for business purposes; (d) there is in force in respect of the vehicle, a policy of automobile insurance providing public liability and property damage insurance of not less than the minimum limits prescribed by the Motor Vehicle Act as proof of financial responsibility; and the (e) owner has one or more vehicles fully registered in his name for the current registration year.

I don't think (b) will be a problem. We are putting it back to stock with the exception of toy axles... there will be no lift etc Worst case we trailer it.... not like it will be a daily driver If I still had my old TJ I would be sick right now...

I'm just SOA with Toy axles. Ironically if I went back to spring under I'd have to use lift springs, or have 0 flex.

Checked out the frame work last nite.....very nice as per Burkee's usual welding skills. I suggested some clubs and spades to match the diamonds along the frame. lol

My wife has been away since Monday, so we stole a bit of time to work. Only hitch was I was taking care of the little guy, so we could only work after he went to bed at 8, and his room is right above the garage so we had to be quiet. Got the old spring mounts salvaged from the old frame, save for 2. I made 2 new hangers for the rear from 3.5" x 1/4" wall tube, cut, bent, welded and trimmed. Very nice to have tools like the band saw and plasma to keep noise down, for babies and for wives and neighbours. Wait for another day to clean up the new hanger with the grinder. Started figuring the placement for them. Kind of daunting starting with a bare frame and trying to figure out where suspension, steering, body and engine will all have to go. There is no solid point of reference to start from since the new frame is different than stock. The new frame had some amount of stretch built into it, but I have no idea if its stretched in the front, middle, back or ? I think the best I can do is start with the body mounts that attach to the gas tank cross member on the rear hump and work from there. Figuring out the motor mounts. I think I'll use the stock engine side mounts with the rubber removed, and use a spring bushing and pipe off the frame. Also started cleaning up the engine a bit. Anyone know if the blue you can see at the top of the engine mount in the above pic is the proper AMC colour? And Mike took on the task of tearing into the D300, to modify it for twin sticks. Would be nice to throw in a 4:1 gear kit at the same time, but maybe we should wait to see if this thing ever makes the trail first! Stupid jeeps... we had to go buy a set of standard sockets! Paul

The baby will get used to the noise, but I know how you feel. If you wake him your work ends, the baby's routine is messed up, and Momma isn't happy. Have you thought about putting a sight tube in the D300? I've never regretted doing mine. Oil level at a glance. Maybe compare it to Goat's 360. nsjc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fab&action=display&thread=15707

Yup, that's the next mod once the twin-stick rail is done but before I put the case back together. Any hints on where to get tubing that's safe for gear oil? Then I get to play with needle bearings and put it all back together, lol. At least I'm finally able to dig into something mechanical, instead of wiring or fixing rust.

Mine seeps a little, enough to wet the transfer case. I used brass 90 degree fittings with ferules and poly pipe from home hardware. I'm guessing the pipe and fittings aren't the exact mates for one another. I used (I think) a 1/2" pipe thread tap to thread the case. An option would be to use copper or steel tube as nipples and join them to clear pipe with plumbing clamps, but I would like to find a cleaner way. In a small town it's hard to have choice, likely a lot more options in the city, I just can't remember to look.

Probably not, but hard to tell from the pic... most times it's substituted for Ford blue which is WAY easier to get locally. Never seem AMC blue sourced locally. I bought some from a guy that had it bought it in Florida. And there is a couple different AMC blues, depending on year. Can't remember where Craig got his from... but I seem to remember he paid top dollar for it in the end. Bill
