Hey all, Just got a call from Mark and he is at the exit to the range and he doesn't have any clutch, so is looking for a tow. Of course he doesn't have a strap with him and I ruined mine last week doing yard work... . Anyway if anyone can lend a hand you can call him at 223-3633. I gave him a couple numbers from the site to try so call before heading out to make sure he didn't already get ahold of someone. Thanks John

I wonder if he knows he doesn't need the clutch? Add that to the Jeeping 101 course.

That's good. Yeah Paul he said he tried jammin er into gear and it wouldn't go. Start in gear, then jam to the next gear once it's rolling. I know, not easy and not for everyone. My first experience was with an XJ, drove it from the Valley to the south shore with no clutch. I was a little pissed, and found out what the inside of a shift knob looks like, I broke it off.

he said he has to rev high to get it moving sounds like clutch is slipping with only 46000 km on it

thanks John for posting the help line thread. ;D
special thanks to Dugie for coming to the rescue and towing me to APJ's and then taking me home....thanks bro i owe you one.
As for the problem the clutch just wouldn't engage no matter what. i put in into 1st and 2nd in 4 wheel HI and LOW but nothing really happened except for the engine revving. i can only hope that my 100k drive-train warranty will cover it other wise I'm in a bad place. Like Bill said i only have 46k on the General so i hope part of it is covered under warranty. Funny thing is i wasn't even doing anything, i was just showing my brother in law the basics of 4 wheeling because it was his 1st time. I had it in 4 wheel low descending down a small but steep incline and i pushed the clutch in to speed up my decent but i dont think the clutch dis-engaged. (f- knows)
Thanks for all you concerned jeepers. I will update the thread to let the masses know the outcome.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem

If you let the clutch out in 4 low while going downhill to pick up speed you can blow it up. IIRC, the clutch still spins in relation to the wheels, so since the wheels are spinning much faster than they could in 4-low (would usually be stopped by rev limiter), the clutch can spin much faster than designed and break stuff lol. Unusual circumstance, I don't think I've heard of that happening before.

You might be right James. The quote below was from that same thread and thats exactly what i did. I rode the last part of the hill about 10' in 4 wheel low with the clutch pushed in and I'm now finding out that it was a huge mistake. This scenario is something i was unaware of and i wouldn't have done it if there was any chance of screwing up the clutch. LIVE AND LEARN Not covered under warranty so the boys at APJ are working on it now and i pray Andre gives me a "once in a lifetime" deal. "As you went down the hill, your clutch disc picked up a lot of RPM if your trans was in either first or reverse. If it gets going too fast it can disintegrate or break parts of the disc. Sounds like a new clutch is in order."
"Was playin around in some soft sand, big hill. On one attempt down I decided to clutch in and roll down. Dumbass me. Near the bottom of the hill it acted like I let the clutch out yet I didn't in reverse. I then kicked it into neutral and once at the bottom of the hill found the pedal didn't do anything."

Am I reading this right, so coasting down a hill in 4 wheel drive ( with clutch in ) can wreck your clutch? I would never have thought that, am I glad I read this before I did the same thing.
