Well. I've decided to put my new buggy on hold for a while. Still picking up parts for it and building tools etc. but want to start on my kids crawler instead. So thanks to Geezer I picked up a set of Sammi axles, driveshafts and t-case. And he only hit me once with a ratchet! Gotta love a t-case that you can pick up and curl with one arm! "They're so cute I want to dip them in my coffee!" ;D So. Anyone know what stock samurai axles have for gears or what would be in the t-case?

Cool project! Care to elaborate on the plan?
I think the stock sami axles are only 3.77 or something terrible like that. But I know the later tracker R&P from the rear is 4.56 or 4.88 and will swap.
Or use a FWD engine with a welded transaxle, and have more than enough gearing.

Stock Sammy axels are 3.73 Sidekick autos are 4.62..standard are 5.13..you would need 2 frts..kick rears ring gear too big sammy case is like 1.14 high range and 2.62 low (yes not 1to1 in hi) find an 84 sj410 case and with some machining you can get 4to1 low range but what doI know

Well. The plans are to have a one link front and rear. Mid engine. I want to use a shaft drive ATV engine/trans grafted to the zuk t-case. Hope you can picture that. Would be cool to get one with a reverse but trying to be cheap here! ;D So the moral of the story is if you are getting help from a "Geezer" make sure your tetanus shots are up to date, let someone know where yo are going and have good medical insurance... ;D

I allways had the invision of making a crawler with a Chrysler 3.3L auto trans mount it in sideways and use the axles as the driveshafts. Should find a engine and trans of some form (4cyl-6cyl) easily and cheap. Darren

I think those commercial off-road buggies (Rhino?) use a Honda 2.0 and transaxle

Why stop at a small 4 banger or small 6? I could always put in a LS2 Been quite a few buggys built the way you guys described, the Honda powered kid buggy on Pirate being the one I remember most, but I'm looking at one with not a lot of power at first. If the kids do well with that then maybe I will step up to more power. Plus if I can make it fit in the back of my truck that would be even better.

I bet the average ATV motor has more power than a 2.0L LOL How about a 1.0L out of an old Sprint

I think Rico has a good idea and if anyone wants to build one I just happen to have another set of sammy axles. They happen to be attached to a complete sammy with a transfer case too
