that turned out great Glen, nice smooth welds too. Looks great Glen...How much stretch are ya giving her?? I so wish my eye sight would allow me to weld Cheers! Jeff Jeff, just in case you ever wanted to try it, believe me, you don't need both eyes to do it, I just rebuilt an entire rocker inside and out, along with the bottom of the a- and b-pillars with only one eye. sure, it takes a minute to make sure the tip of the nozzle is where it needs to be, but after that, I have had no problems welding in the last 3 weeks. you should try it some day.

Well my deadline came and went. I ended up getting the nasty flue that was going around and instead of finishing it, I sat on the couch for 3 days and barely moved. I didn't take many pics doing the driver's side, as it's the same as the pass. Here they are completed with the first coat of Bondo brand "Plastic Metal" I wasn't happy with how the filler was going to be sitting out in the open, not to mention the 1st part of it was going to be sitting level, and I was affraid it would drip back out... so 3.5" pipe with 22deg cut, some scrap 3/16th and lots of welding and grinding later; The liquid metal kinda sucks. I'd get one shot to spread it and it would start to harden up. I JUST made it with one tube... though I'll need a 2nd pass. It was nice to be able to trim it after a half hour with a utility knife.

Thanks guys! Tonight I'll be sanding the 3rd skim of "filler" and laying down the 1st coat of primer. Apesteguy; hell no I don't get black boogies! I don't touch a grinder without having this on; ...but yeah, crazy amounts of grinding. I should have weighed the grinding dust I've swept up. I'm sure it'd be into the 5lb range. LOL

Nice mask.
new filler mount looks good. Sometimes you need a different solution once you start fitting stuff up.
Did you have to mix the filler stuff, or does it just harden in air? (like, could you have used less hardener?)
Let us know how it works.

Well, that's not my mask specificly. I have one like it. The stuff cures when it hits air. I ment to take a pic... let me see if I can find a web pic.... here we go; and used some of these Used two tubes of the stuff. I don't think I have the skill or patients to get it as perfect as I would have liked, but it'll look good from 10' and realisticaly, it'll be covered in mud most of the time anyway. Unless 24 hours isn't enough to cure, it's no where near as hard as metal. Not a bad thing when sanding. I can still cut it with a utility knife.

That's more of a crack filler... not intended to go on in any real thickness. Would have been better off following Hawkes advice and using products like this on top if you really needed a perfect finish.

Well if it doesn't work, I'll chip it out and try something else. No biggie.

I find pretty much anything that comes in a tube like that is a pain in the ass to work with. Best to start with a real two part filler material from a body shop. Much easier to work with as you won't be fighting the curing process. Canadian tire is no place for body work materials.
edit... should say... It'll prob work "OK" in the end... but with the amount of effort you're putting into these, just mentioning there are better materials available.

As long as the stuff doesn't flake off I'll call it a win. Not much progress... I hate this part of building stuff... drying takes for EVER! 2 coats of primer Color tomorrow
