Looking for a steady rest for an old Southbend Lathe. Ways are 8 1/2 inches apart and approx 6 inches up to centre of chuck. If it is not exactly the right size, I might be able to modify it. There must be some machinists on here with old gear around. Thanks.

Injectors A little history; Had a little bit of vibration in engine at idle. Some internet research showed stock jeep injector bodies can split over time. Sure enough, I had 4 or 5 out of 6 split and rust build up on the bodies. Apparently this is related to heat and the engine has gotten hot a few times. Not sure how this affects the injectors internally, unless the crack starts because of the injector swelling internally first. No idea, but they were definitely not working correctly. A used set helped, but still not perfect. (If you have a TJ, there are probably cracks in the plastic coverings and rust underneath.) Found a set on ebay from this guy: Injector Repair LLC Bosch Ford 24 lb/hr fuel injectors, Bosch # 0280155849, Ford # XF1E-A5B Total in my hand with exchange and shipping was $153 CDN. I always thought jeep injectors were 19lbs/hr, but the ebay vendor says they are 21 lbs/hr. The jeep ones have one hole in the tip, and the Bosch ones have 4 holes which makes a finer spray mist which helps at idle and with fuel economy and emissions, or so I have read. Bonus is extra fuel at 24 lbs/hr, which I think the 4 litre needs. Before pulling the old injectors, I pulled the plugs to see if any of them were fouled so I might be able to narrow down any bad injectors. But there was no real difference in the plugs, and jeep was cold when I pulled them, so they were sooty from the extra fuel on startup. Two of the used injectors I put in were starting to crack. Not bad yet, but they would have opened right up over time, and the other 4 would have done the same. Shiny new injector Ready to go back in According to the ebay vendor: "Be sure to lubricate the new o-rings with oil (not grease) before installation. A small glob of grease can drip into the filter, and / or melt and drip down onto the discharge tip. When the grease cools, it will form a blockage in the filter or discharge tip, and then get cooked on when heated up again. I have gotten a ton of sets of injectors that only had one thing wrong with them - cooked on globs of hardened grease that clogged the injector. One swipe with a steel brush, and the injectors were ' fixed ' - but only after causing the owner months of misery and crappy fuel mileage and crappy performace !!! Jim" Anyway, final verdict: Night and day difference in the jeep. Well worth it. Idles better, runs better, definitely more power, runs along the highway better with less throttle input than before, less vibration. I was getting 13 to 14 MPG before and I expect it to go up. If you have a TJ with a lot of miles, I suggest checking your injectors and upgrading to 4 hole 24lb/hr injectors.

It is about time I did some work to the LJ besides basic maintenance. I have had a few items collecting dust on the shelf for literally a couple of years. So, the list, all before Jam of course , is: 24lb Injectors (Just installed tonight) 68mm Throttle body off a 4.7 Dakota 3 inch stainless exhaust with header Long arms (May rework some shock mounts to maximize the wheel travel) SYE and rear CV shaft Cut wheel openings and remount flares Change rotted out windshield frame Front Bumper And anything else that pops up while working on the list. Probably a Long shot. Looking for 3 inch exhaust system, pipes, tubing or parts to build an exhaust for the jeep. Also looking for a stainless 3" muffler. Would take a complete system off any vehicle that I could cut apart and rebuild. Over the axle tailpipe off a chev or ford pickup that exits on the right side would actually work with minimal cutting for the tailpipe. Prefer 304 stainless but would consider 409 grade. Let me know if anyone has scrapped a vehicle with a shiny exhaust.

The gap should be listed on a sticker under the hood or in your owners manual.

APJ's put a 5.2 into a TJ recently. You could PM Mike Burke at 'Roach here on the board, or stop into APJ's and ask them about it.

quick update. we pulled the spark plugs in the mechanic shops parking lot. considering when it was hydrolocked water only spit out maybe 10 feet at most, we thought 20 feet would be more than enough distance for the oil to shoot out. wrong... it was cranked for less than 2 seconds, and managed to spray the entire box of a newly painted f-350 with a nice coating of oil... so the rest of the day was spent scouring the box of a pickup :/ He should thank you for undercoating his truck. Ford's need lots of undercoating. But seriously, how is the jeep running now? Considering you have hydrolocked it twice now.

I've done a few superchargers on the 3.8 ripp and sprintex they both work well but not a v8 3.6 panty starr is way better then 3.8 but not even close to v8 it all comes down to budget (and cool factor) not sure if i agree with supercharging an already weak engine (but just my opinion ) Sounds like you have some experience with this. If a person were to supercharge the 3.8 anyway, what is the maximum boost you would put on it? How much boost do you think a stock 4 litre would safely take? without intercooling and with? Thanks.

Here is a nsjc thread about siping KM2's, and my reply about siping my 35 inch KM2's is the second post. Added comments on the 6th and 12th post as well. link
I used an oscillating tool to cut sipes into the tread. Took about an hour per tire. Well worth the time.

One of the auto supply guys talked me out of an ammeter I question if said supply guy knows how an ammeter works vs a voltage gauge... You can see you have an alternator failure with an ammeter way before you can with a voltage gauge The only downside to an ammeter is that the charging wire from the alternator to the battery has to be routed through the firewall to the dash and back out. Have to be careful not to short the wire or terminals to ground as it is connected directly to the battery. And it has to be a large gauge wire due to the length to prevent a voltage drop. Voltmeters can be connected to any power source under the dash to see the voltage. Ideally, I think you would want an ammeter AND a voltmeter. Some good discussion here on this forum, and they mention about using a remote sensing amp meter but it would probably be expensive if you can find one. link
I bet it would be interesting to see what an ammeter shows while winching.

If your firewall plug is like the ones in Creepy's google search, then it is most probably a GM firewall connector, if that will help any. The basic wiring on the CJ will be the same as or very similar to GM for that era.
