i got a buddy who is doing a soild axle swap on a 93 yota 1/4 ton....that arm would be the perfect setup for him...is that an after market arm or did you make that..if you made it what did you use for the top arm? thanks

thx for contributing. there is a guy up here running toy axles on a Commmado/Jeepster thing.
looks like 2 regular arms or a spare pitman- one cut off and welded upside down onto the other, to make the top draglink attachment.
do you hate triangles or what? ;D Can I make a suggestion?
put a triangle from the welded spot, then go up and down to where it gets flat for the tie rod ends.
It would really beef it up! it will spread the load over the entire arm, and stop the forces from acting on the weld alone. welds don't dig high fatigue loading.
you got that little thing built pretty quick, congrats.
I was checking out the t-case work on rcc, killa!

first off, the chain is cause i got the factory zuki flex hose on there now so i can move it around the garage and yard.......need atleast one brake....
and the arm is 2 toyota passenger side arms, one upsidedown on the other..... and as for strength jan, i left the 4 bolt holes on the top arm too and used longer bolts so the arm is actually bolted down and welded into one piece. i was going to triangulate it but felt no need to. its plenty strong, and most other ppl that do it this way don't even weld them together, just gring them both flat and bolt..... i prefer to have them welded.... again i'm always looking for sugestions or comments.... i take no offence to anything.....feel free to comment.

i like the chain! if the sound of it doesn't drive you nuts.
i see how the steering is welded now. it looked like it was just a cut pitman buttwelded onto the knuckle part.
couldn't see the 4 bolt pattern area was doubled up.
that's signifigantly stronger than what i thought i was looking at.
but still, the triangulation would ice the cake.
maybe later when you get more higher priority stuff worked out.

I made this bumper for it out of some strong pipe at a shop called Egg's Welding in Woodlawn with help from the owner. I always wanted a CJ when I had it but when I got my CJ i wasn't so sure. The suzuki was great offroad but was way underpowered. Couldn't kill it though.  Do you have any pics of the whole vehicle? |

nice work what welding rod did you use the weld the cast iron?
i miss my samurai to. and the way the price of gas is going i`m starting to think hard that the milage that i got on the YJ suck.

I have no idea what we used...this was in 1986. I remember that he showed me on some scrap stuff and left me to it because he had no time and I wanted it done fast. It was welded in the back so the mess didn't show. After it was mounted, he used a mig to sign "eggs" on the end of the top pipe. Went on to modify it later by adding support for some 6" daylighters:  George, that's the place. Pretty much where the Staples is now. I haven't seen Greg in years. Gone missing. |

I think maddog was refering to welding the cast steering knuckles on the Toy axle.
