does it have the tow/haul trans. button ? makes a big difference when hauling - had that truck in a '03 and put almost 200,000km without a hitch; yours should still have drums in the rear, the discs were horrible on mine; $300-400 every 3 months

if it`s a vortec 4.3 then have no fear. They will knock bang and rattle for YEARS. I towed my XJ rally truck on a Uhaul trailer with tools ,spare tires and rims, and camping gear from Shelburne to Chester with no problems in a 2000 4x4 with the 4.3 and 200,000 VERY hard abusive Km`s. it worked like a top, but it also have the tow option to boot.

we have a a 98 chev 4.3 4x4 as one of our shop trucks. we will only tow with it if we really need a 3rd truck on the road. its not bad taking small boats down to the water but thats it. also it just got a new GM trans last week.

I am currently driving a '98 Extended cab w/fullsize box & cap - it has the 4.3, is 2wd, however this one is a 5spd.
A friend bought it and a horse trailer as a package deal. I've been granted use of the truck as I'll be maintaining it (and I caught my car on fire and need something to drive while I fix it...)
ANYWAYS - A couple of weekends ago I hauled a '99 Passat from Truro to the Valley, and then went to Yarmouth and hauled a Jetta from there to Truro... all in all we burnt about $100 worth of fuel... I was able to maintain 110/120 with the truck/tow dolly combination no problem on flat stretches, however had to make frequent use of 4th up hills.
This particular truck only has the 10" rear drums as well - so electric brakes are nice (horse trailer is equipped)
The first weekend in April I am to go transport a horse from the Valley to Brookfield for a friend. I know from driving the horse trailer home from Truro that its a heavy bugger... I was in 4th pretty much the whole way home... Time will tell what it will be like hauling a horse or two in it on the highway...
I am currently driving it from Stewiacke to Halifax daily, I figure I'm spending $100-$120/week in fuel.... A tank gives me ~600 kms. Hauling the cars I averaged 12mpg, best I've got out of it yet is 18mpg (per tank of fuel)
