So, my Dodge is going to need a ste of tires soon. Considering the amount of towing I've been doing, any suggestions for what to look at? Should I be looking at E rated tires? Right now, my criteria is pretty simple: 1. Stock size (do not want to affect towing) 245/70 R17 2. off-road performance not a factor (though BFG At's would be cool ) 3. hard-wearing, I don't want to replace these tires for a while 4. not concerned with quiet/ride quality. Its a truck, not a soundproof marshmallow 5. White Letters OUT ;D

I have over 10,000 KMs on my BFG AT KOs with no discernable tread wear. $$$ but totally worth it.
Second choice would be Nitto Dura Grapplers. Dedicated towing tire. May actually be putting a set of these on the Dodge for the summer.

Best wearing tires I've used are Michelin LTX MS. Had them on past vehicles and now on the Grand and Dakota. I drive in all kinds of weather and these are the best all around tire I've ever had. With a properly aligned truck and tight front end you can get 80K out of these. One thing I've noticed is some sizes have a different tread pattern like the 17's on the Grand. When I got them I thought by looking at them they would suck but were fine last winter. The big advantage to these over winters is you can use them year round and still have good winter traction. I bet the 17's don't come in white letter. BFG AT's are good too.
I wouldn't be concerned about E rated tires, you're not actually putting much weight on the truck itself.
My coworker has a Dodge 2500 diesel, he ruined a set of BFG AT's in less than a year, I looked a few days ago and the fronts are bald, he got them late last year. Not the tire's fault.

If you are looking for mileage I would definetly recommed Michelin, easily get 100k plus. You pay up front but they are worth it. I didn't go with them this time because I don't like the winter performance, just don't see a tread pattern I like.

In September I bought a set of ProComp AT's. The thread is well sipped and similar to the BFG AT. They are my first set so I have no first hand experience on how they will wear, but ProComp advertises they'll last 50,000 miles. Price-wise, they're a little cheaper than BFG's. www.procomptires.com/truck-jeep-tires/radial-all-terrain.aspx

ETS remolds? lol
I like the LT's, no need to go to an E. really, tongue weight is only around 500lbs, you aren't carrying cargo all day.

Great info so far guys, thanks for the replies. I am finding that my stock tire size is hard to find, so I might need to step up in size. Oh well ;D

michelin's run forever. but don't always grip as good in wet or less then ideal conditions.
i've got cooper HT's on front, and wild country xtr's(i think) on back(2wd) tow, n, haul like a dream.
tread wear, i've never got great wear from a set of tires. but i tend to drive agressive. i don't burn them off. but pushing it in the corners seems to take it off just as fast. too many fire calls for me i guess

No real need for E rating Mike. I have the E's because of the camper.

245 70 17 are to hard to find. go with a 265 70 17.I agree with Hawks, i sold those tires. lol BFGs dont wear good on the trucks we see. i have michelin LTX in E's and have about 40k and are just starting to wear.
ETS remolds are cheapest but will wear out quicker.
I can pm prices if your intersted
an E rated tire will wear longer the an C or P rated tire
