ours were the same way, Paul, we may have had to cut ONE bolt on the entire truck when we stripped it down to a rolling frame. just amazing, even the body mount bolts came out easily. there was all original paint on the frame as far as the back of the cab on one of them.

yup seem fair enuf, it has to be able to fonction by today standard, ie the brake ligth working at all time , not only when the ligths are on as it is from factory, mind you i am not really afraid to be a target for a bomber as i go get my ice cream lol, also got a quote for some reproduction tire for 1800 buck for 5 at my door , just got to check with the engineer if the f rating on them will be good enuf for his inspection , i sure hope so
it would be cool to have a copy of the original tire

Keep in mind, Allen, these trucks came with a 9.00x16 tire, equals out to about a 34" tire, with heavy duty sidewalls and tread, so even a DOT approved replacement isn't going to be cheap. a new set of 34" modern mud tires will cost in the 1200-1300 or more range, depending on where you go.

Yeah i know ,the BFG mud terrains were on the brother in laws M37 for a while . That's the thing , the look alike military or any of the reproduction tires are $$$ but if you're doing a resto and want that look then what other option do you have ? Myself i would just get a 16" mt and mount them on the stock rims. these are the bfg mt's that i had on my truck .
