Automotive seam sealer should work good. I like the NAPA bodypro brand, and it comes in black and is paintable. X2, exactly what you are after.

Yeah, I'm a little worried it'll stay too soft... but if you guys think it'll hold up that's what I'll use.

It sets up pretty firm. You can mark it with fingernail, but it is fairly hard surface. I use it under the steel stuff mounted to the body of my LJ to keep water from rusting the backside of the item, and weeping rust tears down the white paint. If its in a real visible spot, I'll mask off the paint before applying. Like doing bathtub sealer or something, same deal. edit - picked at it a bit, to see how it held up over the winter....its pretty hard, had to dig fingernail in. Its not mushy at all. Of course that will depend on the gap, but what i got got going on is the same as you said you wanted it for.

Looks great, that will slide really good. Was the sealer what you were after? I'm patiently waiting the last parts I made you. i won't spoil the surprize. Or were they for the Jeep?

The sealer remains to be seen. Looks like it shrank in some places that had a larger gap.
Yup, those pieces were for the Jeep. I've got to put her together for a big trip into Burnside at the end of the month... I'll snap some pics then.

I built this using scrap material... dunno what to call it... diverter, deflector, diffuser, director,... whatever. It's to dump the load pass or driver's side. To be installed before filling. Figure it'll save me some shoveling. It's going to be bolted on at the front using a single wing nut. I'm not worried that it's not pressure treated as it'll stay in the shed when not in use. Used the rest of that can of rust check... man it didn't go far. I guess I'll need at least two more.

Your diverter, deflector, diffuser, director is a really cool idea. Maybe just call it your D-4 accessory.

Well come to find out that puck board expands a fair bit in the sun... buckled and ruined the seam sealer bead. Not sure what I'll do with that...
I could try to keep it in the shade... or try to source cheap(ish) SS to replace it with... wouldn't have to be thick at all.
I only have it bolted in 4 places... maybe if I add more it'll limit travel of expansion... but I don't realy like that... just means stress in other places.

Worked on the fenders. When I made them for some reason I thought I wanted the fenders and extensions seperate... but I never had an instance when that was needed, so I; Welded them together. Primed the welds. Seam sealed between them. Rubberized undercoated them underneath. Painted the extensions black and painted the fenders body color. I'll give them another coat before calling them done. I won't bother with clear coat on these, as they'll stay on a shelf in the shed until it's time to hit the road, wich is rare.

Back at it! Put 4 more lag bolts in because the puck board was lifting in the sun and tearing the seam sealer out... hopefull this will force it to lift in the middle where it won't matter as much. Started fitting cheater boards. 2x10, so it gives me another 9" where the sides are just 18" Here's how the ends are going to be held. They're from PA and seem to be pretty beefy Dunno if it'll be useful, but the gate can lower with the boards in place. Re-seam sealed before being done for the day. That's it until I get more hardware and paint. Oh, before anyone asks; this is just for lighter stuff... branches, bark mulch, maybe even firewood, but never rocks, gravel, or dirt.
