Right on. I like the pulley idea. I've got one idea from the last link I posted. Can a cylinder be welded on without burning up seals?... I'm guessing if it's taken apart. I'm thinking that if the cylinder's mounted upside down, and the "body" mounting point is at the bottom of the trailer it would work well. Like this; I only need 42" to get 45deg in this setup... so a 4' cylinder would work quite nice. Jan; I did a quick list today as far as cost. The only unknowns are raw steel, and hydraulic fittings. I was at $1500. I hope to come in under $2K. Obviously $900 for a scissor assembly is "out of my budget". The $100 or so difference between these wheels and steelies is worth it to me to have it look good. I won't look for them on your dump trailer build. As far as use and needing to dump... I want to build a trail that's going to be about 2200' long, as wide as the Jeep and inaccessible to a regular pickup. This is a very long term goal, and could require dozens of tandem loads.

the sisors arn't that hard to build, if you can get the basic geometry off an existing one. they don't have to be real precise ......
you should be able to buy a cylinder with the mount at that end. talk to Bill at motion, they've been using us pretty good on cylinders. a fair bit cheaper then PA.
if you can't get one thats already got the mount there. be very carefull. a bead of weld around the end could keep the cylinder nut from screwing in because of shrinkage, or it might clean the seals off the piston if it's a little further up. usually those are welded on, then the tube is machined, or honed

Move the dump hinge right behind you tires and youll need less cylinder to get it up the the desired angle. Secondly...... Saw an old farmer had this but with a hand crank winch Dunno how to resize pics

There doesnt need to be a scissor mechanism The old man has this trailer. 7 ton capacity you could do yours with 1 in the center.

Oh plus if your main concern is gravel, it doesnt take much to get it out of a dump body,
For all your gonna carry in the trailer at a time you could get it off with a shovel just as quick.

The old man has this trailer. How does he like it? We have this trailer... and I think it's fawkin JUNK! It's only a couple years old, just about rusted right out under the paint, and I gotta get the laborers to shovel off half the load before it will dump. I have been looking for a flat deck big enough for a Mini Excavator or Skidsteer and I doubt very much it will be another Brimar.

Yeah We like it fine.
We carry hardwood (slightly over a chord) and have had no problems with getting a couple yards of gravel dumped.
Its 3 or so years old and is holding up fine as it sees delivery of around 100 chord of hardwood in the summer/ fall and various other farm duties.

Started on the axle sleeve and "filler" pieces today. Stated by measuring inside tire to inside tire of the current setup. Then mocked up both 14 bolt pieces and measured what they came out to; after some more measurements, and some headscratching I went out and got some tubing and a couple other pieces The filler piece is 2" inside, 3.5" out... it'll be machined to match the 2.25"ID 3.375"OD of the axle tubing. Buddy at PA gave me the wrong springs... I checked the part #s when I got home... so another trip for another day.

Oh, and the sleeve is 1/4" and runs the length between the brake flanges. There's a big lip on the inside that it bumps against.

If ya had rockwells in your jeep you could have a powered trailer. It would be cool to see a trailer spinning its tires. Crap now i want a trailer.

The problem with a powered trailer is it works great while in a straight line pushing you ahead, but when in the middle of a turn and it wants to push the rear of you rig off on the tangent it starts to suck.

I'll have less into my gas setup.
Not much for updates... I got myself a chop saw, some steel, a welding tank... getting a loaner welder in a couple weeks. Things should start back up then.
